BDRFlash++, Flashing Pioneer drives with post-12/2022 firmware for free

Post by heisenberg »

Hi guys,

Over the last few weeks, I have worked on a successor to the widely known BDRFlash tool, which I call BDRFlash++.

BDRFlash++ (BDRflashpp) is a free tool designed for cross-flashing and downgrading Pioneer Blu-ray drives. It has been written from scratch and expands hardware support and introduces a clean, reliable way to unlock your drive without recurring costs or risky hacks.

Key features include:
  • Single-click cross-flashing: Flash selected non-UHD drives with UHD-compatible firmware with a single click enabling 4K UHD disc ripping in MakeMKV.
  • Genuine pre-12/2022 firmware crossflashing
  • Genuine post-12/2022 firmware downgrades and crossflashing: Bypass the downgrade block on drives with firmware released after December 2022 using a true firmware downgrade, rather than relying on the inferior header hacks used by alternative tools.
  • Free: Free to use with no mandatory fees or paywalls - now and always!
  • Broad hardware compatibility: Supports a wider range of Pioneer drives than the original BDRFlash.
  • 100% offline & private: Runs completely offline without phoning home or requiring an internet connection, unlike alternative tools.
  • Cross-platform support: Native binaries available for macOS, Windows, and Linux on both x64 and ARM64 architectures.
How to get the flasher?

Drop me or coopervid a PM here,
  • including MakeMKV's drive information for the drive you want to flash
  • and your OS (Windows, Mac, or Linux).

Since coopervid is more active here than me, you can also get the flasher from him. You can also contact me via email over at verbatim-pioneer-drives@mailbox.org

Special thanks to coopervid, babagaya, Mr.Penguin, and skyrider for their valuable technical discussions, to blackened2857 for laying the foundation with BDRFlash, and to everyone in the community who contributed along the way.

I would like to remind everyone they can reach out to me to for free 12/22+ flashing as well as I am an original contributer to bdr flash and have been trying to be squeezed out by the op's above

All they did was probably have ai clone bdr flash with a new feature
It maybe even based off my auto flasher

Actually, maybe, just maybe all the champs can hold hands and join up and collaborate with "MattJackson" with his "OpenSource and Free flasher he has provided for Pioneer and Mediatek Drives"
Everyone would eventually be a "Happy Camper then"

Great software. I've had the opportunity to use the Windows version. It's very intuitive to use, takes up very little disk space, and avoids unnecessary bells and whistles, focusing on what really matters. Highly recommended.

You are wrong, Billy. That was long time ago and you collected a fortune with your fees. This flasher is free and only asks for a donation from people who are thankful for this work.

Regardless of personal ideas, it's great that Pioneer's encrypted firmware has been defeated. Now there are three providers, giving us a free choice. I'm not familiar with programming, but I assume that each of you, be it Billy, Trevor, or Heisenberg, along with others behind the scenes, invested considerable effort. This eases the situation on the scarce Pioneer market for 4K ripping a little bit. Thank all of you very much.

We will do this without a predefined fee and we are only asking for a donation if the flash was succesful and the time spent in the forum to satisfy the requests.

Yes thanks a lot for all of this. I am also not a programmer but a manager on the hardware side. With my old contacts I managed to get a hold of various old stockpiles. To clarify it a bit and for your understanding. Each and every drive, no matter if LG or Pioneer are or were actually Made in China. I stopped a Laptop manufacturer from throwing away several hundreds of OEM PIONEER UD03 slims. Nowadays they simply don`t install them any longer and storing "useless items" is costy. Air fright is very costy and I only did that a few times to verify they are the real thing. If there would be enough demand I would order ship container space and deliver all of them over to Germany. Untested and unflashed pretty low prices would be possible. But is there a demand of 500+ at all?
NOS Pioneer BDR-UD03 slim (crossflashed to BDR-UD04)
NOS Pioneer BDR-S08XLT fullsize (crossflashed to BD-RW BDR-S11)

wrong about what?

you trying to squeeze me out? funny that my name would be left out as well as asmcoms and marty's the biggest contributors and testers of bdr flash for modern pioneer drives
it being an ai clone?

it being a long time ago does not matter you guys still did not have permission to reverse engineer bdr flash and then start asking for donations for it

but if you cant beat them then i guess join them...

To look at things fairly, since you didn't write any of the code for BDRflash or even "your" autoflasher (which blackened was kind enough to put together for you), calling yourself an "original contributor" is honestly a massive stretch. It's a bit like claiming to be Shakespeare, particularly given your everyday spelling and grammar in your native language. You generously supplied a few drives to blackened during the development phase, and that was the extent of it.

In return, you chose to charge community members anywhere from $40 up to $200 for a flasher that someone else created and happily shared for free, so framing yourself as an unfairly sidelined victim here is pretty wild - though not new, tbh.

You are more than welcome to run your favorite AI tools over bdrflash++ to let them inspect and reverse-engineer everything. They will quickly confirm that the project was developed completely from scratch - just as stated in the initial post - without using a single line of code from BDRFlash or relying on your approach of combining blackened's BDRflash CLI, Pioneer's official updater, and minor header tweaks.

It is also rather ironic that you're attempting to denigrate this work as an AI clone or claim that we unauthorizedly reverse-engineered BDRflash, yet you are incapable of writing anything on your own and still rely on various tools created by others. Or do you think Pioneer agrees with you charging money for their official firmware updater?

Finally, there is that wonderful, timeless saying: if you want to see someone's true colors, simply give them a little bit of power. That really comes to light in your role as a moderator over at reddit.com/r/makemkv, where you have been deleting posts that helpfully let users know they can find BDRflash and the firmwares entirely free of charge right here or at cdrinfo.pl (with blackened's approval), simply to prevent them from not buying from you at remarkably high rates.

Fortunately for the whole community, you don't have any control over this platform, so this post is here to stay for the long run - which is likely another reason you're this salty.

Uh?? My Postings are definitely not Spam!
Each Post has a Different Model number. so for anyone that has that specific drive, and does a search for that specific drive that they own, they can definitely find it with ease...
Weird that you call it "Spam"

This is a great release, and we should all be glad someone released their software for free! Depending on flashing pioneer drives for a living is weak at best, just like everything being free for LG/HC for quite some time! We can all say that most of the groundwork was done by bdrflash, but the reality is that reverse engineering the official firmware gave just the same results, and we did manage to decrypt the firmware (which bdrflash does not!). Heisenberg has released the first completely free tool to flash drives, he's not asking for anything, and for Billy to get upset, well, i get it, he can't charge $200 dollars for a flash, even though it's cheaper to get a pre cutoff drive from yahoo japan instead. I have spoken a lot with mr penguin, coppervid and heisenberg as we have all been developing our own flashers, the community has been great, and IS still great to work with! I think we have now reached the end, as all drives can be modified, no autoflasher for $40 dollars, which has one button, except for bdrflashes two button solution (lol..). We have definitively not reverse engineered "your" autoflasher, billy, but I have skimmed through the x86 assembly and compared it with bdrflash, and it's more or less the same, so you did not write it, that's not a guess, it's a fact. I did wish my drivekit tool would be out there for the masses before this, but sometimes i work a week, and then take a month or two off, and so on, so very happy to see my friend heisenberg release a flasher that does all that the community needs, no needs for probing and dumping research features, unless someone here want's to dump 0xf4 or whatever =) Greetings to everyone, the fight against dictatorship is done! :)
