Hi, can anyone please help. Is this drive able to be patched to read 4K?
If so could you please advise what flash utility to use and which firmware?

Thank you! As it turns out I took a chance and used the SDFTool Flasher v1.36 and Firmware WH16NS60-1.02
Worked like a charm.

Used Firmware BW-16D1HT 3.10
Worked perfectly since it is a Asus drive.

To avoid the Sleep Bug or have less problems with 3-Layer discs feel free to flash to LG WH16NS60 1.02MK.

The drives in the BW-16D1X-U are rebranded LG WH16NS40 from what I have researched.

I am running on Ubuntu 25.10.

I downloaded the sdf.bin file, and downloaded the "The all you need firmware pack".
I first extracted the `ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin` file, and copied both it and the sdf.bin file to /tmp, but as you can see from the image below, that didn't work. Then I extracted the `HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin` file and put that into /tmp.

The command I ran:

./makemkvcon f -d 'dev_21:3' -f /tmp/sdf.bin rawflash main -i /tmp/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin

But to no avail. You can see from the image that it's not doing anything. I even waited for 20 minutes just in case it was a slow process. But no indication it's doing anything. No progress indicator, no output, no errors, nothing.



Any ideas, thoughts, help, guidance, etc would be greatly appreciated.

enc, not main?

I did finally get it to work. I had to downgrade to 1.17.7. It seemed to work alright. I'm currently making a mkv from a bluray disc. We'll see if it works.

Should I have done enc instead of main? Do I need to do it again?
