Is there a reason why MakeMKV won't make an ISO of a first generation Legally Blonde DVD, but DVDecrypter, a piece of software over 20 years old, will? Surely MakeMKV is more up to date with decryption?
Re: Legally... disappointed. lol
It's not anything to do with decryption

MakeMKV does create ISOs of DVDs. Whereas it only does a folder backup if the inserted disc is a Blu-ray disc.
I've never had this issue before, but if you have Windows and use Xreveal to break the encryption (if the disc is indeed encrypted), you can then use IMGBurn to make a 1:1 backup, apparently. Is there a reason why MakeMKV won't make an ISO of a first generation Legally Blonde DVD

Yes, I'm aware. That's the problem, though. Why a 20 year old piece of software can create the ISO and MakeMKV can't. Don't know if there is some Log file somewhere that would explain why MakeMKV had issues. Just thought it was strange - although I'm guessing most use it for Bluray anyway.Sayaka wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2026 4:47 pm MakeMKV does create ISOs of DVDs. The same thing has happened on the DIsney DVD Collectable Tin Complete Goofy Collection. MakeMKV would not create the ISO, but DVD Decryptor did with no issues.
Re: Legally... disappointed. lol
Out of curiosity, may I ask which version of MakeMKV you're using, and what MakeMKV reported when it failed to create these backups ? Any error messages in the logs ?
Re: Legally... disappointed. lol
Funny, as I have multiple Disney DVDs where DVD Decrypter dies because of memory leaks, as the discs have way too many playlists than a DVD should usually have, which is a way of copy protection Disney uses. MakeMKV backups those discs without a problem.MusicMan wrote: Thu Aug 20, 2026 2:24 pm The same thing has happened on the DIsney DVD Collectable Tin Complete Goofy Collection. As Sayaka asked you for, you have not written a single sentence, what happens, when you try to rip the DVD with MakeMKV. That's the disappointing thing here.
