LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Apparently I managed to get a drive that won't work with makemkv. Here's the info:
Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/rdisk10
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD08U
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: CJDL004209UC
Firmware date: 2022-12-27
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 65
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS9331
Firmware version: ID05
No disc inserted
The dread "Possible, not yet enabled".
Any chance this can be patched at some point? Otherwise back to Amazon it goes.

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
If that's an XD08EMB-S then you can try getting a LibreDrive-compatible one from Asmcom. However, there are still sufficient keys and certificates publicly available to handle any AACSv1 disk (i.e. non-UHD) without LibreDrive.
Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
We have BDR-XD08TS, BDR-XD08TB & BDR-XD08TG all in stock.

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
I know their site says "Once updated to version 1.02,
This drive will not revert to older firmware versions."
But has as anyone tried using a non official app to downgrade the firmware?
looks like you can grab 1.01 here:
https://pioneer.jp/cgi-bin/device/downl ... W101EU.exe
if you use something like 7zip and extract that files you get an updater.exe file
extract that and you get a number of files.. in
BDR-XD08UMBS_EMBS_FW101EU\.rsrc\BINARY and file 132 you can open with notepad or something and view the header info:
This is microcode file.
ID : PIONEER BD-RW BDR-XD08U
Revision Level : 1.01
Hardware Version : SAT 9331
Kernel Version : ID05
Destination : ID05
File Type : Normal

Been there, tried that. Pioneer have placed multiple stop blocks/checks in place.unix_fun wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:22 pmI know their site says "Once updated to version 1.02,

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
So I guess the file that makemkv dumps isn’t useful to add to the SDF as there’s not really anything inside the tar except the name and Id and what not.
Guessing using the bin file downloaded for 1.02 from pioneer’s site can’t be used?
Would using a chip clip to pull the firmware direct from the drive be useful?

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Nope. We already have the firmware files, still figuring out the blocks/stops pioneer have put in place so we can write the firmware to the drive.unix_fun wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 3:36 amSo I guess the file that makemkv dumps isn’t useful to add to the SDF as there’s not really anything inside the tar except the name and Id and what not.

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Hello Mike and whole MakeMKV team.
I am using MakeMKV for a while and I really appreciate your work, so to show you my support I bought license key 2 weeks ago.
During my recent trip to Japan I bought japanese version of external drive Pioneer BDR-X13JBK. I was lucky because is made in may 2022 with older firmware.
But is not LibreDrive enabled.
I would like to kindly ask you, PLEASE guys, could you update SDF.bin to support my drive? Many thanks.

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
I'm new to MakeMKV and have been looking to buy Verbatim 43888, I don't understand much of this thread but by reading it at a glance it seems that some 43888's work and some don't, all depending on the actual Pioneer drive inside, am I right in that? What would be the odds of getting a 43888 to work with MakeMKV, is there any luck, is it all about luck?
Thanks for your invaluable assistance.

We have posted on MakeMKV about the issues with the BDR-UD04 and links to other forums with very poor reviews. Please see the links below.
If you are looking for playback, this drive is out as it freezes repeatedly.

The Pioneer drives we sell have proven exceptionally reliable in our lineup, except for the BDR-UD04, which is designed for enterprise entry-level budget usage.

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
I'm confused, in your seller page you are selling BDR-UD04 saying it's UHD friendly, here you are saying it freezes repeatedly. In either case, I'm not looking for playback, I'm looking for ripping with MakeMKV only, does that change around the odds? Am I correct in that ripping is reliable with BDR-UD04 but playback is not?asmcom wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:36 amWe have posted on MakeMKV about the issues with the BDR-UD04 and links to other forums with very poor reviews. I read the following on reddit, is there any truth to the below in italics?
The European versions have a Pioneer BDR-UD04 drive inside that has Firmware 1.14. The US version is Verbatim 43890 and Verbatim 43889 that has a Pioneer BDR-UD03 drive that is not LibreDrive and cannot be used to rip 4K UHD discs yet and firmware to flash UD03 to UD04 is not available publicly. The European version Verbatim 43888 just works right out of the box without any firmware flashing.
It was written 2 months ago, many thanks!
