it's not a player bug.
It's Dolby's faulty implementation in newer TV.

Oh so the new engine is faulty? Then I guess Dolby and LG have to work together to release an update on the newer TVs. I will try tagging Vincent from HDTV Test on twitter so he can be aware of this. He has good contacts at LG.

I’m not sure I’m experiencing this bug. LG CX with Sony X700 and Shield Pro 2019. Testing the videos back and forth (ts on Sony and mp4 on Shield) I could easily see the changes on both. The shield might look slightly better but I easily see them as well on the x700.

We thought that this will happen, but can you try it via Shield and TV's Internal player (eg Plex client)?
If those will result in a change then your C1 has cmv4.0 as well (just as 2022 models).

yes this is expected. L8 replaces L2 in CMv4.0.

both the player and TV must support cmv4.0 to get L8 response.

on the TV and shield, cmv4.0 works as normal L1 + L8
on the bluray player , it behaves the same as cmv2.9 because it doesnt support 4.0.

Don't worry about L2 in cmv4.0, it shouldn't do anything with cmv4.0 devices when L8 is present, and exactly that's what you saw.

So, in all, your C1 has cmv4.0, just as C2 and that's why we experience the same bug!

I just purchased my LG C1 77" less than two weeks ago.

However, I've learned a ton from you guys on the forum. I can't thank you guys enough for researching this and helping us out!

Is there a list of CMv4.0 players? It looks like the Shield TV supports it but obviously has the red crush issue and doesn't support FEL.

The image is a lot brighter than what the OLEDs are capable of, and the metadata reflects that.

So we have MDL at min 0.0050, max 4000 nits.
MaxCLL 5640 nits.

This works well on my FireTV Stick 4K Max + LG C2, every change in L1 has an effect similar to the internal player.
Let me know if it makes any difference for UHD BD players.

The previous test was at max 1000 nits, so it's possible some bypassing might happen if the player looks at the EDID, or the TV looks at some other metadata.
I'll have to test modifying the L6 metadata to see if it makes any difference.

In the end, it seems that HDMI input players may just be tracking PQ when *some* metadata is within the capabilities of the display, instead of clipping according to L1 like the internal player.

Both the Shield and TV show strong reaction in the L8 in the trims, chroma weight, saturation, clip trim, I don’t really notice anything happening in the vector fields.
