I'm using the recently purchased x700 with the lg c9 oled and it sucks if it turns out the x700 is unusable again.
C9 has the old DV engine so you don't have this problem.
Hmm I see... so the newer TVs have the new DV engine and the x700/x800m2 have the old one and that causes issues? Do you know what is the difference between the new and old DV engine? And what is the effect of this mismatch on picture quality exactly? Dimmer images?

If this is a software related problem, hopefully Sony can push an update on the x700/x800m2. I wonder if this only happens with files played via usb or to discs as well.

Yeah, this Dolby Vision stuff is really complicated.

What's the interaction between the player (x700/x800m2) and the TV (LG C9, CX, C1, etc) ?

If the bug is in the player, then why does the TV make a difference?

it's not a player bug.
It's Dolby's faulty implementation in newer TV.

Oh so the new engine is faulty? Then I guess Dolby and LG have to work together to release an update on the newer TVs. I will try tagging Vincent from HDTV Test on twitter so he can be aware of this. He has good contacts at LG.

yes I'm sure it can be fixed.
you could add a link to quietvoid's pattern.

I thought if you use the LG CX/C1 internal player then it's OK?

If it's the TV then I would expect that to not work?

Could someone explain in layman term how this new L1 bug affects the picture quality?
From https://professionalsupport.dolby.com/s ... uage=en_US
屏幕截图 2022-07-21 221050.png
屏幕截图 2022-07-21 221050.png (79.3 KiB) Viewed 9221 times
To my understanding, L1 contains the overall calculated dynamic range of scene.
L2 contains how exactly filmmaker would want the image to be tone mapped when L1 exceeds the limitation of the TV. It's basically like this:

When the range of a scene is 2-200 nit and TV is 0-1000, nothing will be tone mapped and just follow exactly the PQ curve.
When the range of a scene is 0-2000 and RPU has L2 metadata to instruct how image on 600nit TV should be tone mapped, the TV will follow that curve.
When the range of a scene is 0-2000 but no L2 metadata present, it should generate a default tone mapping curve based on the TV brightness and L1 data and follow that.
So if L1 is not used, it will be HDR10 without tone mapping(clipped).
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm sure it can be fixed through update, so relax.

Does anyone know if there is a better way to hybrid RPU to BL?

it's up to the newer hardware to be backward compatible with older stuff, not the other way around.
When you play something with the internal player, there is no cmv2.9 from an external source involved except the content itself.

pretty much but the L2 still has an effect when present.
But the thing is that a lot of movies only have a 600nits trim( no effect on bright TV) and some others don't have any (rare).
In that case that's basically static DV. Not to mention all the HDR10plus conversions to DV.

Ahhh! Now I understand ... The problem is between the older players and the newer TVs. Sorry for all the questions!

I’m not sure I’m experiencing this bug. LG CX with Sony X700 and Shield Pro 2019. Testing the videos back and forth (ts on Sony and mp4 on Shield) I could easily see the changes on both. The shield might look slightly better but I easily see them as well on the x700.

Interesting thought,

A majority of my Dolby Atmos DV discs have 7.1 and DD+ can do 7.1 Unless i missed the memo that DV MP4 or TS files doesnt like 7.1, why aernt we using it if Dolby Atmos or Dolby True HD tracks are in 7.1 and the Dolby Scripts downgrades it to 5.1?

why are we losing those two channels cause i do have a system that can do 7.1 and DD+ can have 7.1?

yep, CX looks ok. lucky you

please try the cmv4.0 version on your Shield(or TV internal player) and tell us if you get L8 reaction.

ffmpeg doesnt support 7.1 audio.
DEE does but I'm not able to get 7.1 audio from my C2 internal player to my AVR (might be because my avr is ARC)

Also, the 7.1 EC3 from bluray disc doesnt work, it plays the 5.1 core on my C8/C2.
