My drive flashed and supposedly was updated with LibreDrive - but it wasn't!

I followed the instructions:

Screen Shot 2022-02-08 at 1.49.53 AM.png

Then I unplugged the drive and let it sit for a few minutes and reconnected it. I started up MakeMKV and got this:
Screen Shot 2022-02-22 at 11.24.25 AM.png

So, apparently, even though I flashed it properly and it finished the job in the console, the drive did not get flashed. Also note this 2nd screen shot is after I also rebooted my iMac.

What do I need to do to fix this?
Your BH16NS58 1.03 is most likely encrypted, so in your command, simply change "main" to "enc" and the flash should work. I also suggest flashing to WH16NS60 1.02-MK from the MK firmware pack (in the old folder) as WH16NS60 1.03-MK is absolute garbage.
Cheers :D

Hi everyone! I have some doubts about optical drive enclosures and I would be thankful if someone could help me, please. I'm thinking about buying a LG-BU40N drive for flashing and I also would like to buy a SATA-USB enclosure for it. However, in this guide, some drive enclosures are mentioned as not being compatible with flashing.

More especifically, I was looking to buy a cheap SATA-USB enclosure on AliExpress. Do you think that the enclosure could have problems with the drive if I tried flashing it? Aren't these kind of enclosures supposed to be just an SATA-USB adapter?

Thanks in advance.

Looking to grab a drive for mostly UHD backups, found the BDR-XS07TUHD on Amazon UK. The master drive list shows BDR-XS07UHD as supported for UHD and backup and wondered if the T version is the same?

Some searches showed conflicting information that BDR-XS07TUHD will never be supported for UHD rip\playback but thought this could be outdated information.

Alternatively, if you have any ideas on the best bang for buck UHD drive for rips on amazon UK, no problem for me to flash with modified firmware.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Just for anyone who is Googling, the Pioneer BDR-XD07TUHD is indeed just a European variant of the BDR-XD07UHD. In MakeMKV the product identifies as "BD-RW BDR-XD07U", and the firmware name is "PIONEER BDR-BDS7". It's working great for ripping UHDBDs.

Looking for a BDR-XD07UHD (without the "T") I came across this one and contacted the vendor if the two maybe could be the same. He said the T stands for "top-loader". Which I found odd because the XD07UHD is a top loader already, if I can trust the internet images. He couldn't provide any further information. I got the idea he didn't know much about anything.
Good that your BDR-XD07UTHD is working great.

I ordered a BDR-S12UHT instead. As I speak, it's doing its maiden run ripping a UHDBD. It's very silent, I must say.

A letter "T" in XD07TUHD, XS07TUHD, XD07TB, XD07TS, XS07TS means "Taiwan". These are models marketed for Taiwan primarily, and they are also sold in Europe and Australia. Their American counterparts are XD07UHD, XS07UHD, XD07B, XD07S, XS07S respectively. There are also XD07CB, XD07CS, XS07CS, which are marketed for China (note a "C" letter in the model name). And there are also Japanese models with completely different names, colors and firmware IDs. For anyone interested, these models are XD07J-UHD, XS07B-UHD, XD07BK/R/W, AD07BK/R/W, XD07LE, XD07R-N, XS07JL and XS07JM. Quite a list, I must say.

Just checking whether it's possible to change the firmware on my blu-ray drives to make them UHD compatible? I have two drives (both the same) and they're MT1959 platform and manufactured after 2015 (manufactured May 2016 and the other March 2021). The drive models are the external LG BP50NB40 but with SVC code NB40.

The May 2016 drive on MakeMKV shows up as:

Drive Information:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2115-04-22 15:17
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information:
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

& the March 2021 drive shows up on MakeMKV as:

Drive Information:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2120-05-07 09:17
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information:
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

It's the SVC code I'm worried about (NB40) as most of the guides state to have NB50 (I think?). Can any anyone confirm whether these will work for 4K before I try something that bricks my drive?

Thanks! :)

I have received the drive LG WH16NS60 new. Flashed the drive to version 1.02. Now I have the following problem. MakeMKV can not open and edit the bluray. If I want to manually pull the data from the disk, I can do that, but I get a disconnect after a while. So I can not download most of the files. As soon as the disconnect takes place, the hard disk also temporarily disappears from the overview in windows and then reappears. However, data from the BluRay can be displayed in the folder without problems. Yes I have tried 4 different BluRays and the same problem with all of them. The same thing happens to me with version 1.03. This all occurs in Windows and Linux

Here is some helpful advice:

Please ensure that “Show AV Synchronization Messages” and “Expert Mode” are enabled in MakeMKV Settings.

If you are using Windows 10 / 11, please configure MakeMKV to run as administrator when launching. To do this right click on the MakeMKV shortcut or MakeMKV .exe file which can be found in this location, “"C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV.exe" and choose properties/then select the compatibility tab and tick the box saying “Run this program as an administrator” and click apply.

When using MakeMKV 1st of all make sure MakeMKV is closed. Then insert disc. When you see the disc appear in the explorer then open the MakeMKV application.

I have now enabled "Show AV Sync Message" and "Expert Mode". Even as an administrator and with the procedure you described in the last sentence, I have the same error message as above. The "Info" tab only shows "No information available".

I hope someone here can help me. I am desperate and do not know what else to do:/
I have received the drive LG WH16NS60 new.

Just checking whether it's possible to change the firmware on my blu-ray drives to make them UHD compatible? I have two drives (both the same) and they're MT1959 platform and manufactured after 2015 (manufactured May 2016 and the other March 2021). The drive models are the external LG BP50NB40 but with SVC code NB40.

The May 2016 drive on MakeMKV shows up as:

Drive Information:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2115-04-22 15:17
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information:
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

& the March 2021 drive shows up on MakeMKV as:

Drive Information:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware date: 2120-05-07 09:17
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information:
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)

It's the SVC code I'm worried about (NB40) as most of the guides state to have NB50 (I think?). Can any anyone confirm whether these will work for 4K before I try something that bricks my drive?

Thanks! :)
The older one I am not 100% on but I do think it should be ok. If you are not afraid of bricking it, give it a try.

The 2nd one can be done, for sure. Most of the BP50NB40's I have flashed are SVC: NB40.

For UHD campatibility, these need to be cross-flashed to either BP60NB10 or BU40N firmware as the BP50NB40 firmware is not UHD capable. If you don't want to do it yourself, you can get a single drive flasher from me which is very easy to use. See my signature for the link.
Cheers :D
