No firmware flashing on pioneer for now
Wait, so you mean it just works without any modifications to the drive? I thought all drives had to be flashed to bypass protections preventing UHD ripping?

Re: Pioneer BDR-212UBK - Great Drive for Every Disk! Too Bad It Isn't UHD Friendly!

Hi, just a quick question. I was thinking about getting the Pioneer BDR-212UBK for my new PC i'm getting with i7 12th gen and msi z690 motherboard w/ 32GB ram and Nvidia RTX 3080ti. I'm aware of the requirments I obviously won't have for 4KUHD playback/ripping but would I still be able to use it fo...

Re: WH16NS60 - USB to a new computer or SATA to an old computer?

I see. Will the processing speed of the newer system help in any way or is it just a process that is capped by the disk access speed so either would be just as fast as the other?

Yeah I'm talking about the BU40N
I know the BU40N and WH16NS60 can, I meant in regards to the BDR-212UBK, since I want to get that drive for it's supposed quality in regards to everything except ripping UHDs.

You can still rip and unofficially play UHD you know that kinda the point of all this stuff here
I thought the BDR-212UBK doesn't have any firmware that lets it rip UHD disks yet?

WH16NS60 - USB to a new computer or SATA to an old computer?

I am looking into getting a WH16NS60 and a USB enclosure for it, both to flash it and to then use it to rip UHD and/or play movies. But I am not sure what would be a more ideal system to use it in. I have a 11th gen Intel system that I am going to be putting a different optical drive in for the purp...

Re: Pioneer BDR-212UBK - Great Drive for Every Disk! Too Bad It Isn't UHD Friendly!

It's one of the best burners if you still burn discs. Keep it for that. Get a LG for reading. This is what I was looking for myself. I was considering this drive for watching 4K Blu-Rays and a WH16NS60 or BU40N for ripping them. Though... I upgraded my CPU from a 10700K to a 11700K.... not knowing ...

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2022

I'm a little confused about the state of current WH16NS60 drives. The guide says if it's on firmware 1.03 it will be encrypted... but it's not clear if this means I can't somehow get the MK/Libredrive (these are the same thing right?) firmware on it or not? And that apparently current WH16NS60 drive...

Re: Any good internal Blu-Ray Burners that support LibreDrive but also allow UHD/4K Playback?

Pioneer drives are not UHD rip capable, yet... The only internal 5.25" LibreDrive compatible drive capable of UHD playback (and ripping) is the WH16NS60. There are some folks saying their drives have died rather quickly, however there are also some that are still working just fine. I've had mi...

Any good internal Blu-Ray Burners that support LibreDrive but also allow UHD/4K Playback?

I currently have an internal Blu-Ray burner in my desktop that supports up to Dual-Layer. Since the upgraded Motherboard/CPU now supports UHD (Yes, I am well aware of all the hoops one needs to jump through to make this work on a PC) I wanted to replace it with a newer drive that has more support fo...
