WH16NS60 - USB to a new computer or SATA to an old computer?

Post by Cyber Akuma »

I am looking into getting a WH16NS60 and a USB enclosure for it, both to flash it and to then use it to rip UHD and/or play movies. But I am not sure what would be a more ideal system to use it in.

I have a 11th gen Intel system that I am going to be putting a different optical drive in for the purposes of just being a good quality reader/burner without using it to play or rip 4K movies, and I have an older 3rd gen Intel system I was originally going to replace it's old non-BDXL compatible drive with the WH16NS60. However, now I am wondering what would be more efficient to use if I want to rip a 4K disk. If it would work better if I used the WH16NS60 over USB on that 11th gen system, or if I just connected it internally over SATA to that 3rd gen Intel system. Would already having a non-Libredrive compatible drive connects by SATA confuse MakeMKV if I also connect a WH16NS60 to that system over USB?

Like Billycar11 said, it'll work fine on either. MakeMKV makes it pretty easy when there's more than one optical drive in the computer. It'll also support ripping from more than one drive at the same time on a single computer.

I see. Will the processing speed of the newer system help in any way or is it just a process that is capped by the disk access speed so either would be just as fast as the other?

100% limited by slow discs even on a dual core you would get full rip dpeed
