yes you can use it for 1080p ripping but makmekmv just added support for pioneer drives so you can play and rip UHD unofficially with itrewpb wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:20 amHi, just a quick question. I was thinking about getting the Pioneer BDR-212UBK for my new PC i'm getting with i7 12th gen and msi z690 motherboard w/ 32GB ram and Nvidia RTX 3080ti. I'm aware of the requirments I obviously won't have for 4KUHD playback/ripping but would I still be able to use it for regular1080p bluray playback/ripping and music CD ripping?
Oh wow, great timing, I was about to buy both a Pioneer to use as the main burning/reading drive on my system and a WH16NS60 in an enclosure purely for ripping 4k disks. Now I just need to buy the Pioneer.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:31 amyes you can use it for 1080p ripping but makmekmv just added support for pioneer drives so you can play and rip UHD unofficially with itrewpb wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:20 amHi, just a quick question. No firmware flashing on pioneer for nowCyber Akuma wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 1:48 pmOh wow, great timing, I was about to buy both a Pioneer to use as the main burning/reading drive on my system and a WH16NS60 in an enclosure purely for ripping 4k disks. Just to make sure, flashing the Libredrive firmware won't effect any of the drive's other functions in terms of reading/burning disks right?
Wait, so you mean it just works without any modifications to the drive? I thought all drives had to be flashed to bypass protections preventing UHD ripping?
Hello, so to confirm, the Pioneer BDR-212UBK can now rip UHD discs with version MakeMKV 1.16.7?
Please post your Makemkv status info.yammie1 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:00 pmHello, so to confirm, the Pioneer BDR-212UBK can now rip UHD discs with version MakeMKV 1.16.7?
I have an AMD, but I am only using this to rip with Make MKV, not to watch discs on the PC. Will it still work?
Also this would be a new drive, I see on the Pioneer site there is a firmware update to 1.01 from Nov 2020. Is it safe to assume this might be the version on the new drive and will the drive still rip the 4k disks?
I won't update the firmware after I get this. Thanks.
Hello, I am not sure what you are asking. I can post what shows up in the info section of Makemkv, but it's not for the 212ubk.Coopervid wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:17 pmPlease post your Makemkv status info.yammie1 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:00 pmHello, so to confirm, the Pioneer BDR-212UBK can now rip UHD discs with version MakeMKV 1.16.7?

Yes, the BDR-212UBK rips UHD's. Slowly but it's very adept at reading. As for firmware it's not really possible to tell what a drive will ship with. Mine came with 1.01. Once you get the drive, open up MakeMKV and check the status like coopervid says above.yammie1 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:00 pmHello, so to confirm, the Pioneer BDR-212UBK can now rip UHD discs with version MakeMKV 1.16.7?

Any drive in a pc can be any region you can change it.
