Re: SDFtool Flasher
So someone hacked his account and took the time to update the official release post here on this forum? If so, for what? Mine updated automatically from the Linux repository. I've ripped several discs so far with no issues. (Granted my drives have already been flashed)MartyMcNuts wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2026 11:00 pm The thing is, nobody has heard from Mike in a while so we don't even know if that v2.0.0 is legit!

Hi there! I tried your tool with MakeMKV 2.0.0 on Win11 (german) but it failed to find the sdftool program so everything else failed too.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
I have a question regarding SDFtool Flasher. I've set up MakeMKV v. 1.18.4 and it posts the information regarding my blu ray:
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: MO3OBTI2959
Firmware date: 2120-12-01 17:16
Bus encryption flags: 1F
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.02
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)
So, following setting up MakeMKV, I downloaded and set up SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6 and after a few missteps, I thought I had it running. I selected my drive, the WRITE option which checked both MT1959 Platform and Encrypted Firmware and I selected DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin from the bundled firmware files (I did the download of 2 of these and there is a second .bin file available.
However, once all the settings were made, I hit START and nothing happened. There were no messages or any other activity - I could hit start multiple times and nothing happens.
Has anyone reported this issue or can you suggest something I may have missed?
Thanks.

SDFtool Flasher is fine, but please do not use MakeMKV 2.0.0. Use MakeMKV 1.18.4 instead : https://makemkv.com/download/old/Setup_ ... 1.18.4.exeIrishPirateTPB wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2026 1:50 am I have a question regarding SDFtool Flasher. Re: SDFtool Flasher
Is this an Archgon by any chance? If so, the enclosure doesn't allow drive flashing unless you flash the enclosure first.IrishPirateTPB wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2026 1:50 am I have a question regarding SDFtool Flasher. I've set up MakeMKV v. 1.18.4 and it posts the information regarding my blu ray:

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Title / Reply: BU40N revision CB05 (2017) – main or enc before flashing 1.03-MK with SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6?
Hi MartyMcNuts and all,
I’d like to flash my BU40N to 1.03-MK to enable UHD/LibreDrive, but my firmware revision isn’t listed in the guide, so I’d rather ask before writing anything.
Drive (MakeMKV 1.17.7, Windows 11, slim USB enclosure on a rear motherboard port):
Product: BD-RE BU40N – Revision: CB05
Firmware date: 2117-11-29 13:51
Bus encryption flags: 1F
LibreDrive status: Possible, not yet enabled – Drive platform: MT1959
Sold as “DL/HP” OEM drive
SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6:
MT1959 Platform: ✔ (green)
“Encrypted” checkbox: unchecked (red) by default; “Include boot?” unchecked
READ Firmware produced dump_user_…CB05….tar (72,192 bytes) containing rom_003000.bin (32 B), rom_1EC000.bin (256 B), rom_1F0000.bin (64 KB), inq.bin, fd_fwdate.bin, fd_sn.bin
Firmware to write: DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin from the “all you need” pack (SHA-256 64900e8d…35b5d57, 2,097,152 bytes)
Questions:
Should I tick “Encrypted” for this CB05 revision? The firmware is from 2017, but the 1F flags and the ~70 KB dump make me think it may be encrypted.
Is flashing CB05 directly to 1.03-MK OK, with “Include boot?” left unchecked?
Is my USB enclosure fine, or should I use a different adapter?
Screenshots attached. Thanks a lot for the tool and the guide!

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Yes, Archgon. Thank you for this. I actually saw a video a while back that mentioned removing the aluminum shell and using a separate connector cable which I purchased. Of course, since I'm getting ready to move, it's probably buried in the back of my storage locker.
Fortunately, they are cheap and Amazon delivers. Thank you, again, and I'll post back when I get the chance.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
It is highly unlikely that your firmware is encrypted. The 1F flags have nothing to do with firmware encryption, please see here : viewtopic.php?p=202621marcsauty wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 1:48 pm Title / Reply: BU40N revision CB05 (2017) – main or enc before flashing 1.03-MK with SDFtool Flasher v1.3.6?

Drive manufacturers can use other means than encryption for blocking full firmware dumps as well.
So, encryption should be unchecked and Include boot should most definitely be left unchecked. That's a regular WRITE for this one, and certainly no RECOVER. Generally speaking, you probably should not use 1.17.7 on Windows, the (in)famous firmware tool bug (post 1.17.7) only affects Linux. You should use 1.18.4 (although I believe 1.17.7 would certainly work for flashing on Windows) : https://makemkv.com/download/old/
Absolutely do not use the latest version (2.0.0) on any OS, it is very buggy.
If you have doubts about your USB enclosure, please feel free to tell us more about it. I will probably not be able to help you with this particular topic, but more experienced people than me should know.
Forum attachments are not working properly, we cannot see your screenshots. Please feel free to upload them somewhere else and link to them if you wish !

Re: SDFtool Flasher
Hi everyone.
Sorry for my bad English, I'm using Google.
I have an HP HLDS BDRE BU50N Rev BW50 drive in my HP laptop.
I have downloaded SDFTool 1.3.6 and the "The all you need firmware pack" with the FW for the LG slim BU40N (i think that is correct).
When I start SDFTool, the following error message appears.
When I click "Continue," no drive is displayed in the selection field.
