Everyone would eventually be a "Happy Camper then"
Just to give you a bit of backstory: I actually know Matt, and I'm a massive fan of what he does! We had an awesome chat and tossed some ideas back and forth before BDRFlash++ was even brought up here. Honestly, the only reason I released BDRFlash++ as a standalone project instead of collaborating on his was simply that mine was already about 90% complete by the time I caught wind of his work. On top of that, his tool runs on a tech stack I'm not particularly familiar with (Rust), whereas BDRFlash++ is written in modern C++.

Since both tools are completely free with zero mandatory fees, having multiple options to choose from is a massive win for everyone in the community. Billy was charging $200 up until just a few days ago, but now that BDRFlash++ and Matt's flasher are out in the wild, nobody has to pay an arm and a leg ever again. At the end of the day, everybody wins in a free market.

I want to thank you for the really indepth explanation and honesty. All i am doing here is to add some light hearted humour with some twists here and there for the broader public to understand about "Monopolies".
i laugh and seem to be like a "Joker"... but that i am not.
Yes i do have the "Purchasing power to buy multiple drives just to flash it without even knowing whats gonna happen to the drives.
all i wanna do, is to really get you guys to gel together to agree on differences and let the general public enjoy what they have in their possession at present.
thanks for the honesty once again buddy. i appreciate it lots.

oh yes, by the way.... i would love to get a hold of the BDRFlash++ software for me to just try it out if possible...
kinda of disagree that its a "Invite Basis" kinda of thingy..
would be nice to have one software claiming it can be done, and the other software saying otherwise..
hopefullly a website can be setup up for that comparison...

@heisenberg, @Coopervid,

I'd love a copy of the BDRFlash++ if you don't mind. I recently got a hold of the regular BDRFlash tool from the kind folks over in Poland, and that's been working great for the pre-2014 drives that I've been seeing in some Buffalo enclosures. However I am now starting to search for some newer firmware pioneer drives that BDRFlash wouldn't be able to handle.

Thanks for any help in advance!

I don't think I can PM anyone yet, since I just made this user, but does BDRFlash++ only work for a pure Pioneer drive, or does it work for a Pioneer drive inside an ASUS enclosure as well? This is the one I have:

It works for all Pioneer drives, even rebranded ones like yours. Check your PMs.

Sure thing, check your PMs. For everyone else, please remember to include which operating system you're running, just as mentioned in the initial post.

Thank you very much, it was really easy and it worked great, my drive is now reporting:

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S12U
Revision: 1.02
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2022-03-07
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F01
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.02/ID43
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

No disc inserted

and my 4K Blu-rays goes through without any issues. :D

Also, I first thought my post had been moved, but it turns out you can copy and paste a quote wherever you want, because billycar11 quoted me in his thread called "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated New Pioneer Flashing 2026", even though I never posted there, and he wants me to email him for the flasher, but in his signature it says it costs 40$, while BDRFlash++ is free. Just thought I should let others know, so that they're aware of this.
