Hi, I wanted to rip the first Harry Potter movie in 4K. But the drive doesn't recognize the CD. I get the message “No disc in drive.” The other Harry Potter movies work fine. Does anyone have a solution for this?

The drive not seeing it is a disc or drive issue orLouLatsch wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 8:02 pm Hi, I wanted to rip the first Harry Potter movie in 4K. But the drive doesn't recognize the CD. Order of operations issue
Always let your os see the disc first then open makemkv
Then
Clean the disc
Replace/exchange the disc
Clean the lasers on the drive

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've cleaned the disc several times. I've also cleaned the laser. I've opened and closed the drive tray several times to restart the reading process. Windows recognized the CD once. However, it took forever for a folder to open in File Explorer. MKV also took a very long time and then displayed error messages:
The error ‘SCSI Error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR’ occurred while reading ‘BD-RE PIONEER BD-RW BDR-UD04 1.11 TFDL044279WL’ at offset '524288'
Is there currently a drive on the German market that doesn't have this problem?
