Hi,
I'm following the guide and I got the the part to find the drive identifier, but what I got back doesn't look like it shows in the guide. What returned in terminal is below. Is this drive able to be flashed? I got it from Amazon just today. Thanks!

Re: Question on BU40n firmware version
Hello,
The drive platform should be MT1959. The FR07 firmware, as far as I know, is LibreDrive-enabled but not UHD-compatible. You need to flash the drive to DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK or DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 without encryption (so just a rawflash main, basically). DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK has better compatibility with some discs, supposedly. If you need further help for the flashing process, please let us know.

Re: Question on BU40n firmware version
Either is fine, really. DE_LG BU40N_1.00.bin is more recommended for Linux (due to potential compatibility issues with 1.03-MK) or Windows (for additional compatibility with ripping software that's neither MakeMKV nor Xreveal), but even on Mac, I believe it is still one of the "top firmwares" out there (and I can confirm that - I have yet to find a disc it cannot read at all). If you ever run into a very troublesome disc, you can always try flashing to 1.03-MK.
EDIT : Hmm, your current firmware doesn't seem to be LibreDrive-compatible. Your drive is definitely worth flashing, especially if you plan on ripping UHDs.

Re: Question on BU40n firmware version
So i couldnt get the flash to work via command line so i used the windows sdf flasher tool. It came back successful, but it just ejects my Tron UHD after a minute or two of searching. Not sure if its the disc or i put the wrong firmware on there. Thanks for helping!

Flashing result looks nice.
You can try cleaning the disc and the laser lenses in the next step.
How is your drive connected?

Re: Question on BU40n firmware version
Both cables plugged into the USB C ports on the front of the Mac Mini. It reads DVD and normal Blu Ray just fine. I have 2 UHD's, Tron and First Contact and neither get read and just pop out the disc after a few minutes. I tried both version 2 and 1.18.4. I'm assuming its the drive at this point.
Edit - I tried going to Firmware 1.00 and that didnt work, so i reflashed it to 1.03 and it now reads and is working on the mkv for First Contact. I am going to try my Tron UHD next so I may be ok now

Did you power cycle the drive after flashing? Hopefully you are all good now.mikej wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2026 11:57 pm Both cables plugged into the USB C ports on the front of the Mac Mini. Re: Question on BU40n firmware version
I did but I seem to have to keep doing that. The Tron rip failed, it never got above 1x reading. I put in a replacement request from Amazon. I forgot I also have Back to the Future in UHD and that one wont read either, it just tries and gives up, so I'm leaning towards a bad drive

Re: Question on BU40n firmware version
It might not be getting enough constant power. Do you have any power saving settings turned on for your USB ports? You might need to use an AC self-powered USB hub of at least 24w and preferably with 10Gbps USB-C ports.mikej wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2026 1:49 pm I did but I seem to have to keep doing that.
