NOTE: Something strange is happening with this disc. The KeyDB_Helper_1.0.2.1 tool reports that the disc id is already present in the keydb.cfg file. But when I try it in MakeMKV I still get "The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted". I have tried syncing the keydb file multiple times and even manually downloading it with no luck.

Thanks to everyone who followed the template and provided new disc dump files. The following UHD discs have been added to the public keydb (new media keys are indicated with an asterisk):

Code: Select all

*MKB20_v66_DYNASTIES_DISC_1_E7AF
*MKB20_v66_DYNASTIES_DISC_2_8DD3
*MKB20_v66_MORTAL_ENGINES_1427
*MKB20_v72_GEMINI_MAN_2B11
*MKB20_v76_PERFECT_PLANET_DISC_1_4627
*MKB20_v76_PERFECT_PLANET_DISC_2_FE91
*MKB20_v82_Chasers_7A06
*MKB20_v82_Chill_Factor_85E2
Great to see submissions for the older MKB versions as they really help to fill gaps in the keydb.

When a disc has an incomplete record in the public keydb, such as your Dynasties discs, your experience is to be expected. Incomplete records are useful as VLC and other opensource software will happily playback a disc when only the unit key (UK) is available. But MakeMKV requires the volume unique key (VUK) in order to decrypt a disc.

The KeyDB tool can generally derive the VUK and create a complete entry when the media key is already known to the public keydb. When the KeyDB tool can't create a complete entry that is your cue to post a submission to this thread.

Sync your local keydb and you'll be able to process your discs with MakeMKV now that the entries for your discs are complete.

I had that problem with Cannibal Holocaust from Studio S. The key was in keydb.cfg file, could validate and everything. But MakeMKV returned the same message you got. For me the issue got solved when i updated from MakeMKV version 1.18.2 to 1.18.3. Now i don't know if the issue was related to the version, or that just a fresh copy solved it.

Thanks to everyone who followed the template and provided new disc dump files. The following UHD discs have been processed but the public keydb seems to be having an issue accepting submissions (new media keys are indicated with an asterisk):

Code: Select all

MKB20_v76_Cloak_and_Dagger_D099
*MKB20_v82_DARK_BLUE_E3C8
*MKB20_v82_No_Other_Choice_FDF4
*MKB20_v82_Scarlet_CAB8
*MKB20_v82_State_of_Grace_C52E
Until the public keydb issue is resolved, the new keys are available here: Pastebin Link

Thanks for the submission makeit99. As you use Windows I'd recommend trying out SamuriHL's KeyDB Tool. The media key for your Cloak and Dagger disc was already known to the public keydb, so the tool would've created the complete keydb entry. If any disc records remain incomplete/unsupported after using the tool you can always post disc dump files here.

The timing was most likely a coincidence. The volume key error would've been resolved by either the public keydb getting a complete record for your disc or MakeMKV natively supporting it.

Using the Dynasties example from yesterday, this was the prior keydb entry (keys redacted for the forum):

Code: Select all

0x7BC9AEAB746BF477E0E96CF6E47DC34958728469 = DYNASTIES_DISC_1 (Dynasties - Disc 1) | D | 2019-01-02 | U | 1-0x06D0<Redacted> ; MKBv66/BEE/FindVUK 1.30 - VolumeSize: 65237811200 (UHD)
This earlier entry was correct and would've been correctly validated. It also would've enabled playback via VLC/libaacs. But it wasn't complete so it couldn't be used with MakeMKV.

The same disc now has a complete record so it can be used with MakeMKV:

Code: Select all

0x7BC9AEAB746BF477E0E96CF6E47DC34958728469 = DYNASTIES_DISC_1 (Dynasties - Disc 1) | D | 2019-01-02 | M | 0x69FB<Redacted> | I | 0x8D73<Redacted> | V | 0x8AC7<Redacted> | U | 1-0x06D0<Redacted> ; MKBv66/BEE/FindVUK 1.30 - VolumeSize: 65237811200 (UHD)
