You can't dump the firmware on any platform. Only the calibration info.

You need to modify the options in VMWare to pass the drive through. Not only via the emulation. Can't remember how but just google it.
That did the trick. Thank you! I had added the drive the "wrong way" (via emulation). Following this article is what enabled it correctly.

I have a Asus BC-12D2HT that I flashed with the WH16NS60 1.02MK to get rid of the sleep bug. But I learned that the LG firmware has a feature called "jamless playback" that interferes with disc error recovery when using ddrescue on linux. I tried to flash back to the Asus BC-12D2HT 3.11MK firmware but it won't work.

Apparently this drive has issues with flashing.

Is there an alternative method to flash the Asus 3.11 MK firmware to the drive?

Try using the recover method. Select the current NS60 firmware in the popup window then choose the BC-12D2HT 3.11-MK firmware in the normal firmware slection drop down box.

If that doesn't work, youu could try using the old modified ASUS flasher.
Cheers :D

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I'm having with an archgon LG BU40N slim drive. I used the flasher tool to put the 1.03MK firmware on it because it came with v 1.02 and MakeMKV was not able to use it. However, the drive now won't read 4K UHD blu-rays; it spins up for a few seconds, then stop, and repeats this about 4 times before going silent. It will read standard blu-rays. I've tried to use the flasher tool to downgrade to version 1.00, but it won't take the firmware. The tool goes through the process, says it's complete, but the drive is still on 1.03. Is downgrading supported?

I have an older archgon I bought in 2021 with the same BU40N drive and have been using is since after flashing it to 1.00 firmware. Now I have this new one as a backup and considering 1.00 worked on my old one, I figured maybe it would work on this one too.

Thanks for any help and let me know if you need any more information.

Search the forums for "archon". Their slim USB enclosures are junk - you can't flash with them, and there are problems with MakeMKV.

You need to find a different USB case & move the drive to the other USB case.

Yeah, mid 2025 they changed something in their enclosure and it now blocks flashing and libredrive from working. You should return it and get something else, otherwise you can remove the drive from the enclosure and either use an AC powered USB to SATA adapter (with an additional slim sata adapter) or get another 9.5mm enclosure to put the drive in.
Cheers :D

LG WH16NS60 1.02-MK is the recommended firmware for your drive. Another option is the ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK firmware but it does read a bit slower and does not remove the UHD disc sleep bug.

I moved it to the old drive’s enclosure to flash it to 1.03MK based on info in this forum and that worked, however it’s not working to flash it to 1.0. I also tried a micro sata adapter I have and the flasher won’t work with that either.

I see the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-N000600-212005081010.bin, not the 1.02-MK in the main page….

To flash from 103-MK to 1.00, you don't need enc as MK firmware is not encrypted.

Yeah I know it’s not encrypted. It still won’t flash from 1.03-MK to 1.00, so I’m looking for help with that. I don’t know why it’s not working. SDFtool shows progress up to 100% and says it completes, but the drive is still on 1.03-MK.

Try the RECOVER method and see if that works. In the popup window, choose the 1.03-MK firmware currently on the drive, then in the normal firmware selection drop down box choose the 1.00 firmware.
