That means the keydb.cfg file isn’t being used. HK downloads have nothing at all to do with keydb.

I figured out the problem. My ISP blocks downloading the HKs, so even though I had the latest keydb.cfg, out of date HKs was causing the problem. I had to use a VPN to successfully download the latest HKs and then the disc rips. I will follow that process in the future. Thanks again!
I'm glad to hear you were able to rip your discs. But if the keydb.cfg file were correctly installed you wouldn't actually need the latest HK files to rip those discs. The keydb.cfg file and the native MakeMKV HKs perform equivalent functions, so I'd recommend trying to sort that out when you get a chance.

Could you please post the output of running:

Code: Select all

ls -l ~/.MakeMKV/
If you changed your MakeMKV data directory so that disc dump files aren't being written to that folder you'll need to move the keydb.cfg file accordingly.

@keydb_helper

Is it okay to submit discs that already are in the database, but only have the UK and no VUK?
Hey barnstarmer, that is a fair question. My intention with this thread is to ensure the public keydb has as many 'complete' records as possible. A complete record contains all four of the media key, volume ID, volume unique key, and unit key(s).

So if the public keydb has a unit key-only record, or a volume ID + unit key record, or any other combination of records other than my definition of 'complete' I'm happy for the dump file and MKB_RO.inf file to be posted to this thread.

Regardless of a discs keydb status, I still recommend users take the time to email their disc dump files to MakeMKV team. The forum team have been nice enough to allow this thread and I don't want the public keydb to compromise the continued growth of MakeMKV's native title support.

-rw-rw-rw- 1 myusername myusername  194 Mar 25 16:13 update.conf
Note: I deleted the disc dumps after I shared them with you - but they were in this directory. Also, username redacted.

Pretty sure I should be fine going forward. Probably just a user error the first time I downloaded the keydb.cfg and couldn't rip those 3 discs. I'll be sure to confirm the disc isn't present in the db and the HKs are updated before I submit again in the future. I'm going to write a shell script to download the latest, unpack, grep to confirm the disc isn't present, and run makemkvcon to confirm it can't decrypt. I'll share the source for anyone else who wants to use it / modify it for their use.

Thanks again!

You're using Linux, so the file literally needs to be named "KEYDB.cfg", and not "keydb.cfg".

Ah, THAT's why it didn't pick it up. The first time I updated the db, I copied the file twice into that directory, one lowercase, one uppercase - and it worked to rip the UK version of The Astronaut. I didn't do that when I tried these 3 discs. Good to know. I'll make sure the script I write accounts for that. Thanks!

That's not correct. I'm running Linux and it works fine even if I use "keydb.cfg" and not "KEYDB.cfg", at least when put in the MakeMKV folder.

Well, it apparently wasn't working, and there wasn't any other possibility... Which file-system are you using for your .MakeMVK folder? Are you using ext4 with "casefold" enabled?
