I really should change it to automagically sync the KeyDB on startup. I didn't cause I figured that'd be annoying but honestly reading this thread, I'm starting to change my mind. I can see why keydb_helper is frustrated. I was hoping my tool would help cut that down a bit.

Good idea. He still should modify his first post and strongly encourage to update the keydb file frequently.

Well, they say to check the public keydb before submitting a link. However, they also have it as the last instruction (and as I've learned recently with my tool even if it's the first thing it's not always followed) and doesn't explicitly say to download the very latest. I think there's likely some confusion on that point in that "I downloaded it 3 days ago..." etc.

The phrasing should be: Always update keydb via ..... before you insert a disc in your drive. And I am doing that but was not really aware that I'm doing this before inserting a new disc. This post just says what I was doing subconsciously.

Welcome to the club! :D

I suggest you modify your last sentence of the first post in bold colored letters and add: Run Findvuk-synchronize frequently to add the newest keys! If on Windows use KeyDBHelper which also puts a copy of keydb.cfg in the .Makemkv directory and saves you that step.
Thanks for the feedback Coopervid, I'm happy to incorporate your suggestions.

Sorry about that, first time doing this and I just searched the forum for postings with the titles in them, not the keydb itself. It's understandable how the repeats are frustrating though. My bad, just a newbie trying to be helpful. Don’t worry though, not much chance I’ll try again anytime soon! Appreciate the work you do regardless. Thanks!
Thanks for your understanding and sorry for getting agitated. I appreciate that you were trying to assist the community and extend the public keydb. Feel free to submit any future disc dumps you can generate. Just make sure you sync your local keydb before posting in this thread...

Your tool has definitely helped to reduce the volume of posts which correspond to already supported discs. I also attribute the sharp increase in the rate of verified/validated keydb submissions to your tool.

I know that sync on startup might frustrate some users. But I'm sure a majority would happily wait a beat if it means they can forego posting a dump file to this thread.

My only concern about including language regarding the timing of inserting discs is that some users may get the impression that the local keydb has an impact on AACS host key revocations.
Public KeyDB Disc Submissions
  • LG/Buffalo/Asus drives only (Pioneer drives are not supported)
  • Please use file hosts, not forum attachments
  • If your disc dump is under 3MB, you need to manually include the MKB_RO.inf file from the AACS folder

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look at adding some new stuff this week when I get a chance including automatic sync on startup if the local KeyDB is older than X hours. That should be a decent enough compromise.

Sam, I think forcing it is not really nice. Generate some popup after start saying the keydb hasn't been updated since blahblah. Would you like to update now? Yes / No.

What's the point of wasting everyone's time though? The whole point of using my tool is to keep the keydb synced with findvuk and then copying it to the proper makemkv folder. The time period I'm thinking about is like 12 hours. We know that the keydb gets updated constantly. So no, I don't agree.

Hey zaqqaz6917, thanks for taking the time to check the latest keydb before submitting that new disc dump. The 9BAA variant of M3GAN 2.0 has been added to the public keydb.
