VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
Hello!
I have been trying to play Bluray's / UHD's in VLC for some time.
Unfortunately it doesn't work the way I would like it to.
I just want to select a folder and the movie should be played with menus.
Unfortunately VLC fails here.
If this would also work from the TV
it would be great.
I have tried it with backups and MKVs.
The OS is Endeavouros Linux.
How do you solve the problem?
Many thanks in advance.
Yours sincerely, R.Lehmeier

Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
The problem is located between the screen and the PC. You should use google and learn how to use it. Generally I recommend standalone boxes like NVIDIA shield, Uugos or what I use is an Oppo clone.
Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
You should use "Open disc...", select "Blu-ray", and then "Browse" for the folder containing your back-up.
For menu support, your installation of libbluray also needs to include these jars:
Code: Select all
/usr/share/java/libbluray-awt-j2se-1.3.4.jar
/usr/share/java/libbluray-j2se-1.3.4.jar
Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
This is the first thing that google says. Open disc etc.MrPenguin wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 9:32 pmYou should use "Open disc...", select "Blu-ray", and then "Browse" for the folder containing your back-up.

Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
The two jar files are already installed.
The two jar files are already installed.
However, the BACKUP button does not work for me (it is grayed out).
Therefore I use the macemkv
Does this mean that Makemkv only makes sense with its own streaming media player?
It would be enough for me to have the files on a drive, which I can then make available to other computers or the TV.
Or a player other than VLC. Whichever one that may be.
Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
Which BACKUP button? VLC has no such button. If you mean BACKUP in Makemkv: Don't click the big optical drive button. Just insert the disc and click the backup button. As soon as you click the big drive icon the backup icon will be grayed out.
Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
This read to me as if I should first open the disk, select the drive and then select Bluray.
But that didn't work, because after selecting the drive, the bluray detection starts immediately and the display shows what the bluray contains.
Now there are 5 symbols (buttons) above for “Open file”, “Backup” (grayed out), “Save selected titles”, “Default settings” and “Eject disc”. There is also a “Make MKV” button on the far right which has the same function as “Save selected titles”.
As already mentioned above, the files /.config/aacs/KEYDB.cfg, keydb.cfg,libaacs.dll and /usr/share/java/libbluray-awt-j2se-1.3.4.jar as well as /usr/share/java/libbluray-j2se-1.3.4.jar are located on the computer.
However, the menus are not displayed/played in VLC.
It is either the VLC or MakeMKV.
If it is due to MakeMKV then one possibility would be to create a decrypted ISO that can be played by any device.
If it is the VLC then it would be great to know a corresponding application that, after clicking on a folder, plays the movie with menus.
Preferably without having to install an entertainment center such as Kodi or another streaming media player or purchase external hardware.
It would be enough for me if, for example, I could provide a directory / an ISO via NAS to access it and then play it on a TV or computer.

Man! You are a mess! What you post has no reference to VLC or Makemkv. I guess what you posted is in reference to Makemkv. HAVE YOU READ WHAT I POSTED. If you click the big drive symbol you can't do backup to folder anymore (greyed out). Please be more specific and upload pictures. imgur is a good source to do so. But I assume you will fail to get this running with your very limited capabilities.Lehmeier wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 8:12 pmThis read to me as if I should first open the disk, select the drive and then select Bluray.

Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
In order to make a backup in MakeMKV, after you start MakeMKV and insert a disc, then the first thing to click is the backup button on the first screen of MakeMKV.

Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
I thank you for your competent but condescending manner - then I know that at least you are doing well.
I just followed Mr. Penguin's suggested path and it didn't work out the way he apparently meant.
Maybe it was a misunderstanding or an incorrect description. However, I only assume the best of motives.
I know how to make a backup, but then I can't start the backup in VLC.
It would be great if it worked like DVDs.
You go to the folder with the copied data and the movie is displayed with everything, including the menus.
Unfortunately it's not that easy, because apparently there are problems that I can't understand.
Regardless of whether I make a backup with or without BD+, the result is always the same. It doesn't work - during playback.
If I should make any adjustments, please let me know, or do you have the same problem with VLC?

Re: VLC refuses to play Bluray and UHD's, which program do you use?
I am not interested in opening the Bluray, but in playing the backup that was created from the Bluray.
