Is MakeMKV installed to the default location? My understanding is that's the only place the SDFtool front-end only looks.

MODEL: BH16NS40
SVC CODE: NS50
ROM VER: 1.04
Manufactured: June 2019

See attached photos. I've spent a few hours reading the information here, but I'm hung up on "WH16" vs. "BH16", unsure if any of the firmware packs have what I need.

I'd really appreciate guidance.

I've already made a firmware backup via the SDFtool Flasher.exe, and the backup was named like this:
dump_user_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE__BH16NS40_1.04_211901041338_KLKJ6PB3313.tar

Thanks!

That backup is only the important cal data. It's not a full firmware backup.

The recommended firmware for your drive is WH16NS60 1.02-MK.

I was able to successfully update the drive based on your guidance. Note: At first I was concerned because it was not working. But once I restarted my computer, it was working wonderfully. Thank you!

Hi MartyMcNuts,

I have a LG slim portable drive BP50NB40 SVC NB52 drive and I was able to use your tool and follow your 4 step instructions with the tool all reporting success. However, when I inserted a UHD disc into the drive it failed to recognize the disc with MakeMKV 1.81.1 and have this repeated spin up and then stop sound.

I tried resetting the PC and also un-attaching and re-attaching the drive, but still get the same result. Attached is a screen shot of my drive info in the MakeMKV. I am wondering can you provide some guidance?

Umm.... You haven't completed the process. You have only done half as your drive is still on BP50NB40 1.03 MK firmware. You need to perform the reovery steps now to get the drive cross-flashed. Follow the gif!!
Cheers :D

Hi MM,

I am a 1st time-er  , in this exciting world, that I have been reading all over, is that You are the Master of!

I have a PIODATA External UHD BD Drive
MPN: PIOEXT3UHD
I was told that this device is capable of writing to the SONY BD-R XL2 2-4X 1218GB discs, and Reading a 4k movie (with software needed..), is this true?

I am Lost at 'What-to-do-1st", could I Please bother you for a list of tasks, and Software that I will need to attain this?

If in fact this device is not acceptable, could You recommend another unit that would work better/BEST?

Again, I have no Clue where to begin, and Your Help would be extremely appreciated!! :D :D
Thanks in advance!

I haven't heard of that model before. Before we go any further, please post the MakeMKV drive info & libredrive info sections for your drive.
Cheers :D

Connect the drive and open up MakeMKV. On the right hand side there are two sections needed. Drive Info & Libredrive Info. Copy and paste the text from these 2 sections here.
Cheers :D

I have two different WH14NS40 lg drives, one marked May 2025 and another May 2020, both of which I've been able to be decrypted but not read 4k UHD blurays. I flashed to WH16NS60_1.02 first to remove the encryption and tried to both run with that firmware and going back to WH14NS40 1.02 but each time multiple blurays I've tried fail to be decrypted by makemkv or opened by vlc. MakeMKV gets to AACS/ContentHash001.tbl and fails to decrypt the disc at that point. I've tried both Godzilla Minus One and Conan the Barbarian so idk if it's just a fluke with these two or if it's actually my drive.

I believe this drive should be BDXL and UHD capable as is. Please try a UHD disc. Also, in MakeMKV go to view/preferences and under the General tab, be sure that the "Enable Internet access" checkbox is checked as internet access is required so MakeMKV can download the latest UHD hashed keys database.
Cheers :D

With using the 'CYBERLINK Power Dvd program',(Is there a prefferable one that You use?) I tried to play the '"GODZILLA -1.0" 4k movie in it, and it says: "There is a disc with unsupported format.." Is there another program to use, to get it to read the disc?? Can I play it through the MKV prog without any upgrading or firmware? I checked the Online intyyernet box..

The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide recommends WH14NS40 on any Firmware directly to > WH16NS60 1.02MK

After you flash your drive to WH16NS60 1.02MK does the LibreDrive Information section on MakeMKV's first screen say the status is Enabled?
