getting too old?
Well, i am already too old :?
the enclosure was only 15 €, so cutting/cracking a hole in the backplate isn't much of an issue.
Then with the help of some gaffa tape this will "become a permanent/flexible desk/benchtop fixture" as well...
Since the drive usually lies on top of the PC hidden under the desk it won't hurt my eyes too much..

PS: just found some simple and cheap USB to Mini-SATA adapters like that one:
https://www.amazon.de/BENFEI-SATA-USB-K ... Caps%2C103

Is there any reason why you bought a much more expensive one?

I bought one of those USB 3.0 to Slimline SATA a couple years back on Aliexpress and it worked fine to flash 2 of them. Granted, I never tried to actually rip a UHD with it, just flash.

I'd prefer the adapter d00zah linked to because you can use just about any 12v power adapter. I have several of those kits, even one dating back to like 2001 and they all still work fine, but I don't have the original power adapter for any of them. I bought 5 of the kits for 30usd once just for the itty-bitty sata cable/adapter included with them, they're handy if you use a sub-iTX form factor.

thanks :)

is there any reason why someone would want an adapter with a power supply?
Afaik usually USB3 should be able to supply the drive with enough power.

...a power supply?
What Billycar11 said is true, but for me it's because I use as few cheap multi-voltage adapters that I can with barrel adapters, similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CCN1QPY4

I also use C14 to C13+5-15R Y-splitters, which are pretty handy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CB7GD658

I've been pack-ratting hardware for decades. It supports current, as well as legacy interfaces. Plugs into a USB hub on my desk. & it looks 'pretty' & the old one it replaced didn't support ATAPI devices. It was time for an upgrade.

edit: Also, I have discovered the 'miniPC'... a NUC11 takes up virtually no space & is quite powerful for most of what I do. That adapter suited my purpose.
