So i'm looking into updating pic related, i've found firmware 3.11 for it but i'm curious about what you posted. Do i just use the ASUS ODD FW Changer to flash DE-ASUS BW-16D1HT or will i need the official FW? Do i lose any functionalities like disc writing? Thanks.

I have the same question. I have tried to flash my ASUS BW-12B1ST with both the ASUS flasher and the SDTool. Neither one seems to work. They both just hang and/or do nothing. What am I missing?

Just looked up what I used sucessfully:
(Modified) ASUS ODD FW Changer (24.08.2019) + UHD Friendly Firmwares + Latest MK Pack (14.02.2020).zip

Does anyone have a link for this firmware update? I have the same drive (purchased 2018), and it doesn't read any recent blu-ray discs.

Except for LibreDrive functionality (link below), no particular FW is required for BD. That said, 'the guide' contains links to all available tools/recommended FW/videos, etc for drives, in general.

sorry about that, I was just responding to the thread because it deals with the same drive I have, and it doesn't read the latest blu-rays anymore. I can still burn dvd's and cd's though.

- BD/UHD uses blue laser. CD/DVD uses red laser. It's conceivable blue died. Has this drive been power cycled (not just a reboot) since this started?

- Host revocation... LibreDrive and AACS

Well I didn't realize it was a different laser for dvd/cd. So before I get more involved with this, could you tell me if this newer drive is able to read UHD discs? If so, then i'll just order one right now and be done with it. It costs less than I paid for my Asus drive.

I have been looking through the form for quite awhile now and I am finding confusing binary "Yes/No" on wither or not this drive is supported for UHD.

Can't tell from that info it likely can do UHD but I can't guarantee it or tell you what to flash you your drive platform is not listed needs to be mt1959
If it is that follow the Asus fw process to 3.10 mk

I had two of the BW-12B1ST

One that was much older and the other one I purchased maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Anyway I was able to have that crossflash and now it works fine for UHDs or appears too...don't have an abundance of media to try yet. Tested with one uhd thus far and worked fine.

The other one wouldn't even try too as the software said it did not have mt1959 that it was looking for.
