Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
that would be great. my workaround for that until now has been tomike admin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 8:56 pmThis is a long-planned feature actually. Right now, when you make a backup, if you select a non-empty destination folder then backup would just fail. However, by using AACS content hash table it is rather trivial to see if the folder already contains the backup for the same disc, and in this case write only missing parts. This way one could make a partial backup with another drive (or ddrescue or just copy files) and then, when selecting the folder as a backup destination almost instantly "fix" it - MakeMKV would copy only missing/damaged parts and would figure everything automatically. Hopefully I'll get my hands on it sooner than later...TeddyRaspin wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 6:10 amPioneer BDR-S12UHT (or 212UBK) can read even "stones". It is silent and able to perfectly
read/write any UHD 4K Blu-Ray, expecially triple or quad layer, while LG sometimes fails.
1) insert disc into anydvd (in case its key has never been seen by anydvd before) to get it to get the VUK
2) use multiple discs to get a complete ddrescue copy
3) mount the image created in #2 in a software mounter to get anydvd to decrypt.
the big advantage of the above approach (vs makemkv as you describe) is that anydvd will remove disc based protections so allow it to be used a disc, and those are mostly out of scope for makemkv (which really only handles aacs/bd+ as that's all that's needed to convert to mkv). With that said, a big advatnage of makemkv (vs my approach) is that makemkv will handle the bus encryption if it exists. I actually kept an old non bus encryption drive around for just this purpose, but didn't help for UHDs. Then again, makemkv comes to the rescue again for my approach with libredrive where one does a makemkv/ddrescue dance to get it to read without bus encryption.

Yes, sorry, it didn't work at the time, so I though there was some anomaly. But it seems to work fine now. Libredrive is such a cool concept. A great thank for all the developer.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 7:09 pmSays enabledtrucide wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 5:49 pmHello,

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Restarting computer or disconnect and reconnect Pioneer BDR-UD04 normally sorts this problem. This only happens the 1st time you connect the drive and after that it works flawlessly.trucide wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 7:48 amYes, sorry, it didn't work at the time, so I though there was some anomaly. Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives

Thanks Ange-Noir,Ange-Noir wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 8:09 amHello everyone,
I purchased the Pioneer BDR-S12UHT with Vantec NST-540S3-BK with Asmcom and after a week of use, I'm thrilled. Here's why :
1. Communication with the seller is fast and friendly
2. The dispatch from the UK to Switzerland with UPS in 4 days, including weekends.
3. The package packed and protected to perfection.
4. The Pioneer is a killer. It is very efficient, reads my UHD, BLU-RAY and DVDs without any difficulty.
5. And most importantly for me, it rips easily all I give it, whether with
MakeMKV or Leawo.
To conclude, I would say: subscribe today on Asmcom is king.
I am also very happy with the new Vantec DX2 model number (NST-540S3-BK) Enclosure fitted with a Pioneer BDR-S12UHT.
The new Vantec DX2 model now uses a new updated communications interface PCB. The newly design PCB incorporates the JMS578 USB 3.1 Gen1 to SATA 6Gb/s bridge controller. It provides a low power and high-performance solution for optical disc drives. The JMS578 supports higher data transmission rate and lower power consumption than its predecessors.
A special thanks goes to Mike Chen from both the Chief executive of Vantec Mr Danny Chen and myself. Mike Chen who again used his superb skills and know how to enable encapsulated support for the new DX2 enclosure and enabled the specific vendor commands required to allow the drives to be flashed while inside the enclosure.
The Pioneer BDR-S12UHT fitted to a DX2 enclosure is brilliant combination with it's sleek and stylish design. Performance is of a very high standard and the quality of the Pioneer drive combined with the the newly designed DX2 is a clear winner.
I am now following in the footsteps of the Number 1 UHD seller Billycar11 and I will no longer buy and sell Hitachi and ASUS desktop drives as they only read 90% of BD100 discs.
I am now selling the remainder of my ASUS and Hitachi desktop drive stock. I will be selling the drives of at £79.99 and £72.99 respectively until all stock is exhausted.
I have now upgraded my own drives and enclosures. I now use 4 drives to backup my movie and music discs. This is how I rank my 4 drives.
1st Pioneer BDR-S12UHT with Vantec DX2
2nd Pioneer BDR-XS07TUHT Slim 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Writer (Slot Drive)
3rd Hitachi BU40N Vantec Slim Enclosure NST-510S3-BK
4th. Hitachi BU40N with Archgon MD-8107S-UHD 4K-Ultra HD External Drive
When I put a disc in the Pioneer drive it reads the 4k disc within 2 to 3 seconds, none of these loud seeking noises for 10 to 15 seconds that you get with the Hitachi or ASUS desktop drives it just reads the disc immediately. I can walk away and know when I come back that the disc will be completed successfully and there will be no read errors. The same goes for the Hitachi BU40N which is also an amazing wee drive.
I must thank Mike Chen for making this Pioneer project possible. He is an absolute genius.
Also not to miss out thanking the Number 1 UHD Seller Billycar11. Thank you for adding me to your list of recommended sellers and also sharing your skills and knowledge with me.

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
so really amazing these efforts, and such a similarity to what is being done in the minidisc field, as for that they've/we've (the minidisc aficionados) also been cracking/reverse engineering minidisc players {netmd} firmware, uploading various firmware mods and running stuff as unsigned code in volatile memory.
So who would've thought this was also happing for a format that isn't really dead unlike Minidisc (which is, no active development from Sony or others, no music being released on md's professionally, and no new players are being made for 10+ years), where a lot of companies are still actively making new player and pressing discs with with movies and such, that gets cracked again and again, aacs, regions all the rest of it, and now this....
So,
just wanted to say, I'm amazed it's so similar to what a lot of us are doing on the minidisc reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/minidisc ) the minidisc wiki ( https://minidisc.wiki ) and it's discord ( https://discord.gg/Vm29q3nuUk ) there too are some really amazing devs working on it, that have cracked almost fully Sony's old NetMD protocol, one guy even got a Tetris game up and running on an Sony md portable's display. How crazy is that!?
So hat's off to all of yous, and please, if you're into physical media, and not just Blu-Rays, don't be afraid to check out minidiscs too! There are a lot of overlaps, both are of course optical discs in one way or another.
To close, I'm looking at some pioneer options, esp, the verbatim wolf in sheeps clothing ones with pioneers in them, quick question: does anyone know which pioneer drive is put inside the verbatim 43889? (the usb c 3.2 gen 1 sold-as-non-uhd but vdxl capable)
(that one's lower priced then the 43888 which IS sold as uhd capable, but I'm already testing that within the return window.)

Re: LibreDrive for Pioneer drives
Hi,
I searched, but I'm still not sure: would the BDR-212EBK work for ripping UHD discs with LibreDrive? Or is there too much difference with the UBK version(XL vs UHD-friendly)?
Thanks for your help.
