Re: WH16NS40 Flasher
Hi,
I somehow ran into the same issue with ending up having "Write DRAM NG 05/24/00" "error code 0x8f052400" issue first from the GUI/recovery then from the cmd line.
I have a WH14NS40 via USB3.0 in a OWC Mercury Pro Enclosure. Win10 x64 20H2 19042.630; MakeMKV 1.15.3 x64;

I can only assume it didn't successfully flash even though it indicated so as thats the old fw?
Try the same command again but replace MT1939 Boot Code" with MT1959 Boot JB8 " (Note the space before the quote! Keep it in. It is not a typo!)

There's that error code!
Yep, that is exactly what I figured would happen as this is the same command that the flasher uses. I honestly am at a loss as to why neither of those commands worked. One of them should have. I'll contact Mike regarding that error code and hopefully he can shed some light.
The only other thing I can think of to try is the old dosflash method. You will need a PC that can be changed to IDE mode in the bios and your drive needs to be connected to sata port 0 or 1 of motherboard. As you have previously flashed the newer 1.05 firmware, dosflash access is disabled, however, the new version has a workaround. There is a bit of work required to get things set up though...
To use dosflash, you will need:
The drive recovery iso file. Write it to a USB stick so you can boot from it. Look at the bottom of the first post under "NS40 Recovery Image" in thread https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634. There are instructions in the recovery image zip file on the best way to write the image to USB stick.
The latest dosflash. Get it from here https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... =15#p73174
Now, when I made the recovery iso, I can't remember if this new dosflash was around or not.... I don't think this version of dosflash is inside the recovery image so you will need to either put it on a second USB stick to use alongside the recover image stick or extract the image iso content, add the new dosflash to the "DosFlash Firmware Dumps" folder, then recreate the iso (imageBurn should do the job). Write this new image to USB stick and boot from it.
When using dosflash, you will have to:
1. Dump the current drive firmware. (This is MANDATORY as it contains your drive's very important calibration info!)
2. Use the EEPROM data mover to create a new firmware (which uses the DE_LG_WH16NS40_1.01.bin as the base and copying your calibration data from the current dump you just created in the previous step).
3. Write this newly created firmware file to the drive.
4. That's it! Reboot PC and switch any bios settings back.
Good luck!
When you get a moment can you please provide some insight on this issue:
sorntor is trying to recover an old WH16NS40 that was flashed with current NS50 firmware. He has tried the command line using both the old and the new boot info. One command says completed successfully but hasn't actually completed the flash and the other gives "Command produced error code 0x8f052400"
Cheers

Re: WH16NS40 Flasher
Looks like am in a similar situation.
Background: I have this wh16ns40 drive brought somewhere in 2014/15 and its manufactured in Dec 2013.
I use primarily this to burn data blu rays and it gave an error kind of which says "power calibration error" and stops, no intent to rip anything. This prompted me to upgrade the firmware of this drive as it was 1.00 version with a view that it will probably add support for more bluray media.
I downloaded 1.05 from LG site and tried flashing it. It progressed and my system hanged in the process and became unresponsive which i had to reset. This rendered the drive to stop showing up any disk i throw at it and stopped spinning, no light. I can only eject tray out.
I read through experiences of others thru this drive model and there is no explicit mark of SVC-NS50 however I remember seeing SVC-NS50 shown both places when i tried to upgrade to 1.05 on the official flasher. The board does have mt1359 chip.
I tried using dosflash with an official version by using eeprom data mover but no luck so far.
Any suggestion from anyone on what i can do? ofcourse throwing it into wc is one of the option but any thoughts around rescue would be great.
Thanks for reading.

Re: WH16NS40 Flasher
quick update.
After reading the threads fully and various drive models concerning wh16ns40, i understand my drive is mt1939 type and cant take anything that made for mt1959.
Luckily, i didnt loose the critical data thats unique to drive and i picked up an image thats meant for mt1939 (BH16NS40) and modded with the caliberation data at hex address 01e8000 and 01e9000.
My drive back to life and it can now read all discs and write CDs/DVDs but could not successfully burn BD data discs. Could be meadia issue or this firmware thing not fully fixed.
Anyone has WH16NS40 1.00 clean version for mt1939, appreciate if i can get that image to try.
Thanks for reading.

Billycar - The answer is simple and you've already been told. People Google and this is the first result. You're like an old man shaking his fist at the sky your complaining doesn't help anyone.
If you guys actually wanted to change this situation you would get the mods to edit the first post and to cross strike out the entire thing and to instead link to the appropriate guides.
Is it really that hard?

Thank you for the post. It is so very confusing reading and bouncing around to find all the tools you need to flash your drive (once you find the models you need to buy) It is nice when there is a direct tool with just the firmware you need setup.avenger09123 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 2:22 amFor anyone looking - I read through pages and pages of forum posts to bring you this one simple and easily understood set of paragraphs - I bought an LG WH16NS40 with 1.04 firmware on it, and rented two 4k blu-rays. The drive would not even recognize the disc was present after spinning up.
Long story short -
Download the zip below - open the flasher tool. Select the folder with the arrow in it and select the firmware that says 3.10 in the title. Flash it. Restart. Then flash the second firmware in it - which has the correct model name in it and is UHD friendly courtesy of our genius friends here in the forums. Thank you, you all have helped greatly.

I have a LG WH16NS40 with the SVC Code:NS50 on it. However, it is firmware 1.05, Manufactured November 2020. After days of trying to get it to firmware update and such. Keep on getting "CheckSum is missmatched Drive will go to BOOT mode Please retry again. I thought I was doing it wrong. However, I have been flashing several Asus drives (with much lower and older firmware) quite easily. I believe this model with the 1.05 has the encrypted firmware that hasn't had a fix. So I am posting it here in case someone else is trying and getting this error. Also, in case someone does have a new tool updated patch to make this work.

Re: WH16NS40 Flasher
I've tried multiple guides on this site. I have even tried other sources. I can flash all the drives I want of the Asus that I have. I have used the Asus tool successfully for those. I can't do the same for the LG. If there was a current guide that you suggested then please post it. I have been going around circles on this site and when I finally get to some place where I believe it has the answer, no link. however no problem plugging the info automatic flashers. I am fairly inexperienced in flashing rom firmware but I am pretty tech savvy if I can only get the proper info and tools.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 4:05 amidk maybe read the official guide that is updated instead of some guide that was outdated since it was releasedrblood01 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 2:39 am
