LG OLED55B6V.

For the movie The Lord of the Rings.
Which Dolby Vision profile is best suited for my TV? 5, 7, 8 or 8.1

I have found this information:

Profile 5 single layer with exclusive support for Dolby Vision
Single layer 8.1 profile with HDR10 + Dolby Vision compatibility
Profile 8.2 single layer with SDR compatibility

From what i can read Profile 8.1 would be the best as it has HDR10 + Dolby Vision.

But I am a newbie at this.
If someone clears it up.

I would be very grateful, it is also of my interest since I have the same television.

B6 are (or were if firmaware did not change that ) play Dual track/dual layer DV MP4 files, so he betters keeps just using the Dolby muxer tool, profile 7, and get a Dual track/dual layer MP4 DV file.

I just answered that one post above.. that parameter is only for madVR...

if you want SDR screenshots, no need of FFmpeg. just tone map your HDR video straight in madvr.

LLDV has it own profile as well.

if you want SDR screenshots, no need of FFmpeg. just tone map your HDR video straight in madvr.

the problem is the approach, in player-led LLDV the TV/sink must pass over all calibration parameters and current settings/values (whatever can be passed via HDMI, EDID etc), and based off that the player must decode the Dolby stream accordingly.

This will most likely never be as accurate as decoding full tv-led DV in the TV hardware itself with all of those parameters plus additional data that cannot or wasn't transmitted...

in a perfect world it is, but practical tests have often shown the difference

The CX is rumored to have lost dual track mp4 support.

Can confirm that, no more Dual track/dual layer mp4 files with CX.

So the dolby vision files created using the method in the OP can't be played using the tv internal media player anymore? What is the alternative?

Totally agree, had this argument with many a LLDV evangelist, with the Oppo clone you can switch between Tv led and player led, there’s is a difference, on some content it is very noticeable.

The guy only forgot to mention that due to LLDV "sinks" switch off most of their image processing, resulting in visible shittier image quality

there's been a lot of discussion that dolby vision causes problems for bluray authoring (bitrate limitations that vary based on potions of the disc when one gets into double and triple layers) and there's been much more uptake for it on streaming where it's easier to implement as constant bitrate limit). It could be that dolby is transitioning away from bluray based dv and putting their eggs more in the streaming basket.

Eventually, Dolby Vision and other media companies will move away from physical media. We are minority, we have to accept it. Future is with streaming. The quality gap is very narrow and the convenience of streaming it's a winner for me. I am sure with better internet speeds, we will have the option to stream lossless auido in the future.
