I have the BP50NB40 SVC CODE: NB52 and followed the instructions on the 1st page of this post: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896

It varies a little bit from your instructions, unless I am reading it wrong. Is there any benefit to re-doing the process in the way you are describing here?

My BP50NB40 SVC CODE: NB52 is currently on on firmware: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP60NB10_1.00 ( not encrypted )

I have ripped a few 4k UHD so far with no issues, but I do see quite a few AV/sync errors that it says it corrected while reading. Just trying to make my drive operate in the most efficient manner.

Thanks!
No benefit if your on 1.00 it's fine
Thank you billy for the quick reply!

Hello, I'm at a bit of a loss, and hoping I can get a bit of help. I watched the video linked in the first post (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQV1aPlbow), and seemed like I successfully flashed a 1.03 WH14NS40 to WH16NS60 1.02. I verified it was a model that would work, MT1959, made after 2015, and it seemed like it was successful. I just can't actually get any discs to be detected with it. I've tried both UHD and Blu-Ray, and neither disc popped up in MakeMKV after placing them in the disc drive. I know the Blu-Ray disc worked at the very least because I already ripped it before.

I don't really know what my next step should be with this. My disc drive is currently connected by a SATA Adapter, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PV ... UTF8&psc=1 and I've never had issues with this for HDDs or a DVD Drive. I don't believe it would be causing problems, but just wanting to mention it in case it is somehow the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help, and I'll reply to any questions as soon as I can.

I opened up my computer and connected it via SATA, no change in results. Wanted to do that before I purchased another adapter to see if that was the problem. Any other advice? Should I try to reflash or something?

What's the date on top of the drive a 1.03 drive is probably at least 3 years old at this point so unlike to be new

The date on the sticker says 2019 01 31. I bought it off of Amazon as New, but everything about the packaging screamed Used. Thought I'd try it anyway, since I thought it met the requirements listed in the first post.

Edit: Just want to say, I'm regularly checking back, but my posts aren't showing up for hours because they need to be approved first. I'm not complaining about how the website works, just apologizing for the delay in response.

I have LG WH16NS40

I downgraded to firmware 1.02 a couple of years ago and it has worked flawlessly since to rip hundreds of discs. I tried today though, and MkMkV doesn't see that a disc has been inserted. MkMkV does still identify the drive, and the correct firmware though.
My system is also unable to read a disc there, either. The drive opens and closes, but nothing is being read. I tried re-flashing the firmware, but still nada.
Is it possible the unit has worn out? Like, the laser doesn't work anymore? Nothing has changed with my system otherwise.

Thanks!

Yeah happens all the time but before you throw it away fully turn it off completely power off your computer and unplug it or unplug the drive case if external.
Wait 5 min then boot back up and see if it works
If not you could also take it apart and clean it but it's probably done for and time for a new drive

It's internal. :( Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. It just stopped working with no system changes whatsoever. If "happens all the time" is really a thing, then this could be a candidate. I've been ripping discs almost daily with it for a couple of years.[/quote]

PITA? Is it worth it when a new one costs $60?

Is it worth $60?? You said you have ripped 100's of discs with your old drive. How much have you saved in doing so? :)

Sorry for quoting you again, it's just been about a week, and I'm curious if you had any advice, or just wanted me to check the date on the top of the drive?

I included that in my response when you asked me the first time time. The sticker says 2019 01 31. Just looked at it again, Manufactured January 2019 is to the right of it.
