3D Full Disc

Post by silverfoxxxx »

Hi,
I have made a few Full disc backups of my 3d collection but when i open them in programs to convert to SBS i am told no 3D content can be found, i am using BD3D2MK3D and DBtoAVCHD and both report the same issue.
Am i missing something when completing a full back up of a 3D blu ray?, when i open the folder made on my hdd it contains an ssif folder within the stream folder which i believe to be correct for a 3d back up.

Any ideas why these programs are not picking the 3d part out?

Thanks.

Video content on blu-ray is encodet in MVC, not simple H.264. Until now, MakeMKV is not a decoding/encoding tool. And no other decoder can read MVC in a MKV file. So it makes no sense to put this MVC in a MKV file.

There are some tools out there ripping MVC from blu-ray disc to H.264 (SBS, TaB & L/R) MKV files.

Actually, PowerDVD reportedly can play MVC in MKV.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses so far but i am using the full disc back up not the back up to mkv so the full disc back up should contain exactly that, the full disc, the issue is why other programs don't seem to see the 3d part of the back up, the ssif files are their in the stream folder which is from what i've read correct for 3d blu ray.

Which is why i wad wondering if i was missing something, does anyone else convert back ups to sbs?, and if so what processes do you use.

Thanks

Actually, it doesn't. It will play it but it is doing a 2D-3D conversion and only using one eye of data to generate it from. Try it yourself and compare to actually watching the original disc in 3D and you will gasp.

There aren't any software players that will play back a 3D MKV file generated by makemkv yet but I understand that is to change (sorry not my announcement to make).

Hi,
Have i misunderstood the 3D back up feature to makemkv?, i can back up blu ray 3d's in two different ways, full disc and to mkv, but can't actually play either of the back ups in 3D. I have used the program for a while now and think it's great for backing up to my server so i can play on various media players around the house but was unaware the 3D feature that has been intergrated for some time now is not as user friendly as it seems.

All this ripping of my new 3d blu rays has been a bit of waste as i am missing a player, i have googled but am unable to find anything that will play either back up myself. Any help would be appreciated as my new 3D tv will be unwrapped in 11 days and connected to a drive less htpc :(

There are a couple of media streamers out there but my favorite is http://dune-hd.com. Easily the most robust.

As for PC software, the Pro or Ultra versions of PowerDVD will playback 3D.

There is an ongoing effort to integrate MKV support into Stereoscopic player. It should support MKV with MVC data soon.
