Start updating the firmware from scratch. Requesting assistance. Thank you.
Hi, I'm Tuowang from Hong Kong. I'm very glad to join this forum. Thank you for the administrator's approval.
I have been involved with ODD for over a decade. Starting from the early days with Panasonic, Sony, TEAC, and continuing to the present with LG, ASUS, Pioneer, etc., I have been exposed to all of their series of recorders.
But recently I have encountered some difficulties. Many models have been discontinued, yet I still want to make full use of them.
Could you please tell me how to update the firmware from scratch?
I have many products in my hands. If you don't want them, please leave a message for me. Thank you.

there not really much fw development going on for CD drives
and from what i can see they are very old from 1999
so theirs really not much flashing to do to those
for modern UHD drives see the guide below

OK. Thank you: Billycar1
I will upload some photos of the new HUB and Blu-ray drives. If you are willing, at an appropriate time, you can teach me how to flash the firmware.
Of course, I understand that this will take up your valuable time. I am willing to pay for it because I have many similar drives.

I just can't help it. I just talked to a drive seller (hopefully not scammer) on the China second-hand app and he also thought UHD BD is called HUB.
Re: Start updating the firmware from scratch. Requesting assistance. Thank you.
The drives shown can't be flashed for UHD. Forget it.

I'm very sorry. As I'm using a translation software, it might be a mistake in the input. I can recognize the abbreviation for 4K ultra-high definition. Thank you.

OK, Coopervid. Thank you very much.
I'm just a bit interested in these technologies. Maybe I can get ready for them and make more people aware of our community.
I would like to know which models can be technologically enhanced to achieve 4K ultra-high definition.
Re: Start updating the firmware from scratch. Requesting assistance. Thank you.
Pioneer full size starting from 208 or S08 and later. Slim starting from XS07 or XD05 and later. Verbatims with an UD03 (UD04 is UHD capable already.Tuowang wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2026 9:56 am

Sorry, I still want to know...
Are there any specific requirements for flashing the firmware or updating the software?
On the link, I have already seen the requirements for the model and year of the ODD. However, at that location, can we view the firmware code of the ODD as well as the serial number???
Regarding the operating platform
The motherboard of the computer, the requirements for the operating system (I often use systems from the WIN series. I have several Western Digital mechanical hard drives. I have installed different operating systems on each hard drive, such as: WIN XP, WIN7 computer version, win10, win11 workstation version).
Regarding the hard drive (whether to use SSD solid-state drives from Samsung, will it improve the efficiency of operation??)
The link cable I use is a SATA extension cable, connecting from the motherboard to the host power supply.
Besides, makemkv can function to its fullest potential only when connected to the internet. Or can it work properly with an internal network alone?
Thank you. I hope to express my gratitude for your reply. If you are willing, I would be more than happy to pay for the learning. This is my attitude. I wish you a pleasant weekend. If you see this message, please reply to me.
