Hey all.
Ive been gifted an external slim Bluray Reader. Had never been used though is a few years old. Doesnt look to be of any worth, though it was aparently around £100 on amazon.
Its a MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ240AF. Make MKV Picks it up as such, Windows picks it up as a BluRay drive. But it just refuses to load any BluRay disc. No mater the age. Keeps spinning on "Disc is being Loaded" but never gets anywhere. Oldest BluRay i have is from 2005.
I know my discs work as i have another external that ive been using fine.
It will read and rip DVD's perfectly fine, just does nothing with a BluRay disc. It definatly has the 2 lasers. And all the markings on it as a BluRay drive.
Anything i can do here? Or is it a case of thats it, and ill just use it for DVD ripping.
MakeMKV Version 1.18.3 Windows x64. Thoughh has had the same problem on Linux

Drive not picking up BluRay Discs
Re: Drive not picking up BluRay Discs
Do you have an USB3 connection for the drive?
If yes, most likely the blue laser is dead.
If yes, most likely the blue laser is dead.
Re: Drive not picking up BluRay Discs
Defnatly connected by USB 3, and connected to an external power supply aswell.
Likely to have a dead Bluray laser from new? As i mentioned it had never been used, was still sealed in the packaging.
Re: Drive not picking up BluRay Discs
If the disc doesn't show up in Explorer - yes. It is not uncommon to receive a returned drive which is defective. Should have been tested right away after it arrived.
Re: Drive not picking up BluRay Discs
Ah well, thats a shame then. Least it was free.
Re: Drive not picking up BluRay Discs
Try cleaning the lens over the blue laser. To avoid missing it, you might clean both lenses. The blue laser is under a lens that looks red because it reflects red light outward.
Re: Drive not picking up BluRay Discs
Did try that, seems no amount of cleaning helps
