I bought a what I believed to be a BU40N
However I have my doubts
Drive Information is as follows from MakeMKV
Drive Information
OS device name: I:
Manufacturer: 000000
Product: 9999999999999999
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: MO9P5OG1000
Firmware date: 2124-04-23 13:47
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 75
Its connected using the recommended cable from Amazon the cablecc one
Says its a Hitachi LG BU40N on the label but it also has this
MSIP-REM-HLD-BU40N
Which would seem to confirm that its meant to be a BU40N
It also doesn't show up in explorer
Questions are have I been duped
Can it be flashed
Or do I hide it from the wife and buy another one that's genuine
Weird UHD drive Information

Re: Weird UHD drive Information
You left out the libredrive info section but it's probably the adapter you are using. Never heard of a cablecc one.Rabster wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 5:20 pmI bought a what I believed to be a BU40N

Re: Weird UHD drive Information
Whatever is in the ultimate UHD drive guide 2026.
On the occasion that I needed to flash a bare BU40N, I used my Alxum powered SATA to USB adapter with a SATA to slimline SATA adapter.
Cheers

Re: Weird UHD drive Information
One way to confirm is an issue with the cable your are using is to check that serial number matches what is printed on your drive. Does it match?

Re: Weird UHD drive Information
With LG drives, the serial shown in MakeMKV never matches the label.

yeah i can say i am sick of these junk adapters makes flashing impossible and libredrive because it blocks drive info
might still work for regular bluray
i can say only get a approved adapter from the guide i keep it updated if they change the chip set i remove it once i know

Re: Weird UHD drive Information
I bought this adapter from Amazon that was recommended here on MakeMKV
BENFEI SATA to USB 3.0 Cable, USB 3.0 to SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Compatible for 2.5 3.5 Inch HDD/SSD Hard Drive Disk with 12V/2A Power Adapter, Support UASP
So far it's worked with both LG and Pioneer drives showing correct info. Also used to flash both.
