Hello,
I’m new to ripping discs and recently finished ripping my entire Blu-ray collection (about 13 TB total). I’m now looking to start ripping my 4K Ultra HD collection and have a few questions:
Does the LG BP60NB10 external slim 4K Ultra HD drive work for ripping to MKV format? The listing states that it has been flashed with the correct firmware.
Will I be able to rip 4K Ultra HD discs on a Mac?
Will 4K MKV rips maintain the same quality as the original disc? My Blu-ray rips turned out very well, and I’m hoping for similar results with 4K.
Thank you for any guidance.

Yes, that firmware version should work properly with 4K/UHD discsgrappler1999 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 9:40 pmDoes the LG BP60NB10 external slim 4K Ultra HD drive work for ripping to MKV format? The listing states that it has been flashed with the correct firmware.
Yes
Yes. MakeMKV does not re-encode anything so the quality will be identical. It is functionally the same as moving an object from one box to another, slightly smaller box.grappler1999 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 9:40 pmWill 4K MKV rips maintain the same quality as the original disc?
