I'm not exactly sure what this particular segment is, but is there a way to prevent this from happening again? I have plenty of disc space, so that's not the problem.Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/01218.m2ts' at offset '9972215808'

Dune BD Backup Error
I have a Pioneer BDR-XD05 and tried to back up my Dune (2021) disc. I received this error:

Re: Dune BD Backup Error
It looks like the drive may be struggling to read that disc, ran out of power and disappeared for a moment, enough for MakeMKV to throw that error.Dromeosaurid wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 1:10 amI have a Pioneer BDR-XD05 and tried to back up my Dune (2021) disc. I received this error:

Give the disc a good cleaning before attempting to rip it again.
Cheers

Thank you! I'll give it a proper cleaning and give it another go.

Re: Dune BD Backup Error
I gave it a proper cleaning and it's still throwing the error message. I tried another disc altogether and it gave the same error message. It seems like the drive doesn't get enough power over USB for sustained reads. I had it connected to the front USB of my case, so it should be getting enough power I would think. Any other ideas?
Re: Dune BD Backup Error
I'm completely convinced that if you're using a Pioneer UHD drive that you should pump at least 30 watts to it, which is probably double the amount of power a old USB 3.0 port can supply. I have a USB powered Pioneer XD07 UHD drive and it's one of the most unreliable drives I have. It's 50/50 on if it's going to rip any given UHD. For some reason Pioneers require a huge amount of power and in this particular case (USB powered Pioneers) I'm not convinced that the circuit inside the drive could reliably draw enough power even if it was available.
It's the same with 5.25 drives. I have a Pioneer 212V and I had to switch to a OWC Mercury Pro external case from a Kanguru case because of the amount of power required.

Interesting. I may look into connecting the secondary (non-data) USB connector to an external USB power supply if that's the case.flojo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:53 pmI'm completely convinced that if you're using a Pioneer UHD drive that you should pump at least 30 watts to it, which is probably double the amount of power a old USB 3.0 port can supply. Looks like there is an external power adapter for the drive - even better!
https://www.amazon.com/MyVolts-Adaptor- ... NNZYJ?th=1
Hopefully that will solve the read errors.

Re: Dune BD Backup Error
Update: just for grins I connected the drive directly to the rear USB ports of my motherboard and was able to rip without errors. I'm still going to order the external power adapter though.
Thanks all for the help!
