Hi,
Have both WH16NS40 + BH16NS40 with firmware version 1.02 + 1.03 respectively. Think the newest is version 1.05 however on the LG support page there are four versions of these drives so not sure which firmware to pick and if it would be worth while such as loosing features like I did on my Pioneer drive (long story ruined UHD support).
Thanks

I didnt ask you about official manufacturer release made for that drive vs cross flash to unlock features. I was afraid if I upgrade the firmware to the last manufacturer release I would lose libredrive mode or direct access mode like I did on the Pioneer drive. I am sorry not trying to waste your time. Thought that others here would also have something to share and benefit from exchange of ideas. Please don't be offended. I did not mean to aggravate you here. Won't ask you in private from now on. Sorry.

The drive platform on both of those drives is listed as MT1939. As stated in the Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide the drive platform needs to be MT1959 in order to flash them with firmware to enable LibreDrive and thus allow for UHD ripping. If you try to flash firmware designed for the MT1959 platform onto a MT1939 drive, you will brick the drive, rendering it useless.
If the drives are currently working for you for ripping DVDs and regular blu-rays, it is generally best to leave the firmware alone.
If you use the drives for things other than ripping discs with MakeMKV, well, then I doubt anyone here on the MakeMKV forums can speak to the usefulness of newer official firmware for whatever that task is.

You wont' be gaining anything and will lose LibreDrive mode but also LG seem to have messed up their official updater and drives that are MT1939 that get updated often end up bricked.
Cheers

Guess there will always be some who will not listen to experts and others with working experience and update firmwares to their own detriment
