Resolved - Blade Runner Final Cut 4K - Can't decrypt or backup

Post by rotational » Sun Nov 24, 2024 6:31 pm

edit: resolved, works under Windows but not Linux for a BU40N with 1.03MK firmware.

I have previously successfully ripped a UHD (movie - Risen) with this drive, but Blade Runner Final Cut will not cooperate. This is only my second UHD disk . HD BRDs continue to work without issue. On a clean setup of MakeMKV, the first time decryption fails the latest HK file is downloaded. Once MakeMKV has the VUK I get the messages below. Trying an encrypted backup generates tons of hash check failures.

MakeMKV 1.17.8 x64 linux

Disc cleaned
Have tried drive connected via powered USB Hub
Have latest public keydb.cfg in MakeMKV's data folder

Once MakeMKV has the VUK:

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A40..002000800 to device 'SG:dev_21:2'
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT ESTABLISHED' occurred while issuing SCSI command AD010..080002400 to device 'SG:dev_21:2'
Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Saved AACS dump file as /home/xxxxx/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v61_Blade_Runner-_The_Final_Cut_A007.tgz
LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted.
Failed to open disc
MakeMKV info:

Not sure what else to try besides replacing the disk. Unfortunately I don't have ready access to another suitable UHD drive or player. If ultimately it's just this BU40N (archgon) not playing nice with this release I'll just have to live with it.

This doesn't look like a problem with the disc. You need to be able to enable LibreDrive.

By rights, you should be able to decrypt using this drive. So kind of configuration issue, perhaps?

I think on Linux BU40N drives need to be flashed to the 1.00 firmware to work reliably.

Interesting, one of the few tests I haven't done yet is trying from a Windows box, will give that a try next.

edit: Good call. Moved the drive to a windows box and it worked first time. THANK YOU @dcoke22
Will just use Windows when I need to do UHDs as it's so infrequent. Hopefully in the future this works on linux just for convenience's sake.

I sincerely appreciate the help and suggestions from everyone!
