Is "Bus Encryption" the Killer Feature of AACS 2.0?

Post by MrPenguin » Thu Nov 23, 2023 8:17 pm

Hi,

Am I correct in thinking that the main reason AACS 2.x support currently requires LibreDrive is because there are no publicly available AACS 2.x host certificates that would allow people to generate a RDK for each of their drive/disk combinations?

I have a few ordinary BluRays that require bus encryption, and have discovered that knowing their VUKs and unit keys is not enough. Fortunately for me, I know how to obtain an AACS 1.0 RDK :). But would I be in the exact same boat as for UHD disks if I didn't?

Thanks for any help here.

AFAIK no one's been able to retrieve the RDK for an AACS 2.0 protected disc (well, drive really, but you get what I mean here) exactly for the reason you stated....no host cert or device keys available. We are blessed that we have LibreDrive to deal with that crap for us. Bus encryption on UHD's is required (unlike on blu-rays where it MIGHT be on a disc) per the spec.
