Yes, it's either the ATV: I'm pretty sure cmv4.0 is broken and all my TV-LED measurements from the ATV were noticeably darker than the Shield and X800m2
or the Shield: Red push, lots of dropped frames, Resume is buggy, the UI is not great and also buggy.

On my end, I switched to Kodi C2 internal app with MKV and I use my X800m2 only for FEL or when the lossless audio is important (action movies).

Aside from chroma weight what is wrong with LLDV? Does it have all those issues ragico stated? Or are those issues just with those other players like the shield, the firestick and those others he mentioned?

Of course is a matter of choice. I cannot stand the shield problems and have sold it months ago. I can live with the P8 cm2.9 in Infuse and hope that Apple will also add support for P8 cm4.0. As for lossless audio, Apple converts everything in PCM but the quality is excellent to my ears. So, as you, I use the X800m2 only for Fel and for Dolby Atmos when needed, my Sonos soundbar does not support Dts HD/Dts X

The difference between Player-led and TV-led Dolby Vision is significant on a calibrated/capable display:

1. For Player-led (or Fake TV-led in this conversation), the player only knows a small amount about the display through the HDMI EDID handshake, primarily MaxCLL. This is not enough information to fully dynamically tone map. This is better than static metadata HDR10 but leaves most dynamic tone mapping capabilities on the table since a display's characteristics are more complicated than just its max luminance and/or max APL.
2. For TV-led, The display's 3D LUT, chromaticity+Luminance at all APL levels, near-black performance, and additional display characteristics are all considered while mapping.

it's fine as long as your edid is under 1000nits.

it's fine as long as your edid is under 1000nits.

Yes I know that ATV already supports cm4.0 (I did a trial a couple months ago with a mp4 played by Apple native player and it worked albeit with audio problem). Sorry for my error in the previous post, I intend to say that hope that Infuse adds support for P8 cm4.0.

I dont know, I didn't compare TV-LED to LLDV much.
My main setup(C2) is far from my lldv testing setup(cheap TV) so I can't force LLDV on my C2 (x800m2) without removing the Vertex(can force lldv) from my testing setup.

How important it is to you should depend on a wide spectrum, ranging from something like a professional colorist to being the type of person who takes a TV out of the box and leaves it in vivid mode. Only you know where you fall on that spectrum.

I don't think player-led is bad as long as it is done right. For example, it is said Panasonic player has the best tone mapping or picture quality.

I converted "color bar RGB 0-10 000nits P8 DoVi cmv4.0 L1 only.ts" to mp4, added to my "Home movies" on my MBP & then viewed on ATV4K3 in DV using native player, see comparison with Oppo. ATV has artifacts in one red square but the gradient is there for all colours, camera photo was just a quick shot.

yep, that's what I'm seeing too. Those artifacts are not on the Shield TV-LED nor on the C2 internal player.
