You don't search KeyDB for the variant, you search for the DiscID, which is the SHA-1 of the Unit_Key_RO.inf file in the AACS folder on the disc (or in the dump file). Your DiscID is EE4F9E886AC5E85E9DB4DCD00712776869D690B3 and there is already a record for this disc in the KeyDB.
Awesome info, that honestly helps narrow down some troubleshooting now. Now I guess I need to find out why the properly flashed drive isn't working because every other disc i've had works and this one definitely doesn't have any marks or problems by my own eye sight. All my leads seem to be either something wrong with my disc or my drive. Sorry for all the extra posts if it's bogged this thread down I'm just going to buy another copy of the movie and see if it is the disc because I read someone else having issues with Contenthash002.tbl stopping the rip found themselves to have a defective disc and a new one worked.
Did you clean the disc? Doesn't matter if it appears to be pristine, give it a clean!

You did extract the KeyDB.cfg file from the zip in to your MakeMKV data directory (where the dumps go), right??

What does the MakeMKV log window say?
Yes I guess I didn't mention I did clean it and it looked good obviously like everyone says it could have something tiny i can't see or notice but i'm not sure what to do if i've already attempted to clean it three times. Also yes KeyDB.cfg is in the right spot because it allows me to rip other blu rays it's just the 4k Coraline that has issue. The log window does tell me my AACS access has probably been revoked but if that were the case I feel my other blu rays wouldn't work but they do. Considering its just this one movie I think it's safe to assume its the disc.

Here is the last bit of the log window on attempting to rip the blu ray.

Everything points to your drive not having enabled LibreDrive, which means that bus encryption is still active. Note that your log.txt file does not contain a line like:

Code: Select all

001011:0000 Using LibreDrive mode (v06.3 id=1F08FC37E75B)
Do you have write-access to your UHD drive's /dev/sgX device? (Where X is a number such as 0, 1, 2 etc.) E.g. something like:

Code: Select all

0 crw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 21, 1 Aug 26 06:05 /dev/sg1
where the non-root user running MakeMKV belongs to the cdrom group.
So In the MakeMKV application if it tells me libredrive is enabled could it be wrong? It 100% shows it's enabled and works on other blu rays perfectly fine so I feel it should be fine. I can try to look and see about the write access but I once again assume i have write access because it works flawlessly aside from this disc.

Here is what it says about my drive information

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

Your disc is fine and it is already supported by the public keydb.

LibreDrive being functional is a strict requirement for UHD (AACS 2.0) Blu-ray support in MakeMKV. Non-UHD Blu-ray discs do not presently require LibreDrive to be functional.

It is important to understand the distinction between a particular drive firmware being capable/compatible with LibreDrive and LibreDrive actually being active and usable.

This issue is seen quite commonly on BU40N 1.03MK and certain other MK firmware releases on Linux. The same drive/firmware combinations work perfectly on macOS and Windows but there is a compatibility issue on certain Linux distros. If you downgrade your drive to the BU40N 1.00 firmware you should be fine.

As I mentioned above, AACS 1.0 (1080p) Blu-ray discs do not currently require LibreDrive. It would be nice if the MakeMKV status panel made a distinction between a firmware being supported by LibreDrive and LibreDrive actually being active and functional but it is an edge case.

If you'd like to continue discussing your Linux & BU40N 1.03MK issue please create a new thread in the Linux subforum. I get notification emails for this thread and this topic isn't related to the public keydb.

What link did you use to download the public keydb? I just double checked and your disc has definitely been included since August 22/23. If you open up the keydb.cfg file with a text editor you should be able to find this line (truncated to avoid posting disc keys to the forum):

Code: Select all

0x8AE98D1E809B49BBED8162DB77A14EAFA9324205 = KNIGHTS_TALE_A (Knight’s Tale, A - 4K Ultra HD) | D | 2025-03-27 | M | ...
If you can't see that line, follow my instructions here

I used the link from your comment: http://fvonline-db.bplaced.net/. I downloaded "keydb.cfg - Language English (34638 entries)" at "LastUpdate: 2025-08-28 02:43"ish I know how to extract the config file into MakeMKV's data directory.

I was searching "Knight's Tale" before, but it didn't show up. Searching the hexcode, I found

Code: Select all

0x8AE98D1E809B49BBED8162DB77A14EAFA9324205 = KNIGHTS_TALE_A (Knight’s Tale, A - 4K Ultra HD) | D | 2025-03-27 | M |
, but MakeMKV kept giving a volume key not found error until I extracted the key myself and manually added it. Searching shows it is the exact same key as is already in there (| U | 1-0xD000D...), but MakeMKV wasn't finding it. No idea wtf was wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Searching for the disc ID is always preferable. You can calculate it yourself by using a tool like 7-zip to generate the SHA-1 hash of the Unit_Key_RO.inf file in the AACS directory on your disc.

I think MakeMKV may have tripped up on the disc metadata title. KeyDB records are formatted like this:

Code: Select all

<Disc ID Hash> = <UDF Volume Label> (<Optional Disc Metadata Title>) | D | <Disc Date>...
The metadata title of your disc contains the non-ASCII right single quotation mark (UTF-8 encoding 0xE28099). This is why your search for "Knight's Tale" returned nothing - you needed to search for "Knights Tale". This is also why the title may render as "Knight’s Tale" if interpreted as ANSI/Windows-1252 text.

Only 2-3 known UHD discs contain this character in their metadata title. So if this is indeed the cause it isn't too surprising we haven't noticed it until now.
