I did and successfully flashed to 1.03. Unfortunately it still won't read my discs, it just ejects them even although it's patched. I tried doing the next flash but it failed.

I thought that's what I was trying to do with the following line, but I got the error shown above? I didn't think I needed enc after the first flash.

Yep, as Billy said, either follow this guide or use the recovery method of SDFtool Flasher:

I also recommend BU40N 1.00 firmware over the BP60NB10 MK firmware as it is compatible with all good ripping software.

Hi there. I'm doing this for the first time and just wanted to make sure I have a compatible drive. I got an LG BH16NS40 manufactured in April of 2024. Will this work, or is it back to the shop for this one?

As per the 1st post of this thread, you should be good if all the requirements are met. Please read and report back with specific questions.

I have been using an LG BH12LS38 for BluRays, DVDs and CDs for 13 years and it has been rock steady for ripping. Now I have a few UHDs I am wondering if this is UHD friendly?
I have a couple of these that are all on 2011 firmware, so I am good on the non UHDs for quite a long time.

An LG from 4+ years before UHD came out? Not likely. There are some Pioneers from before 2016 that can be modified, but ...

I have CD drives that were before DVDs and the actually read and play DVDs with a newer firmware. Of course cables and adapters are necessary. So many manufacturers dropped there "products" when they were to costly for them to produce at the price they wanted. I have two DVDs from Toshiba that are IDE and run like a charm. Of course I have cleaned lenses and belts and so on.
You would be amazed at how things that are "...said can't be done" that can be done.
in 2023 I needed to access a 5 1/4" floppy and was told it is impossible to run on a new computer. Easy as pie on a 2020 Dell Precision workstation.
Been in the IT business since 1982 and you would be amazed things that can be done.
So, the lesson I have experienced is - always try, try and try before your quit.

The chip in your drive is not capable to handle UHDs. So you need a new drive for UHDs.

I haven't read the 162 pages (sorry!) but at the very beginning of the thread it says that Pioneer drives are much better than LG and Asus...
I am curious to know what does much better actually means here?
Thanks!

its hard to describe but
they dont require reboot when they go into a weird mode usually from a hard to read disc.
they dont just give junk data when they hit a hard to read spot on a disc aka hash errors a pioneer can retry to read a spot lg cant because they give fake data ruining the whole rip and erroring out makemkv.
there lasers usually dont die.
they are much quieter
they seem to last longer.
alot more too but you get the idea

Thank you very much for that.
Since I often buy used discs and borrow out of print movies from the library, what you're saying is I will be better buying a Pioneer drive for less than pristine discs to rip... They seem harder to find in Canada though...
Again, thank you Monsieur!

yes they are better at reading hard to read disc but please make sure your discs are clean before you put them in with used ones.
been getting alot of emails lately about this and then they either have to take the drive apart or they send it to me for a cleaning and thats not covered by warranty as its abuse
