Regarding the Hitachi "BP55EB40 – Revision 4 hardware," what improvements have been made?

They are written for the Hitachi BU40N, but not for the BP55EB40.

In your opinion, is the Hitachi BP55EB40 – Revision 4 better than the Verbatim 43888 that I bought today and which is powered by the LG BU40N?

Hello everyone,

We have now finished testing our latest batch of new Hitachi slim drives, manufactured between September and December 2025.

Both the Hitachi BP55 and Hitachi BU40N drives tested very well, with no issues found during our checks.

We also received the first samples of the new Asmcom USB Stable Power Looms, and they performed brilliantly during testing.

Following those results, we decided to improve the design further by increasing the loom length from 100cm to 200cm, as we have been asked on numerous occasions for longer communication cables for Blu-ray drives.

Because of the longer cable length, we also needed to increase the wire gauge to maintain stable power delivery. A revised sample has therefore had to be produced and submitted for approval.

This has unfortunately delayed the project by around four weeks, but we believe it is the right decision to ensure the final product is as reliable and robust as possible.

We now anticipate reopening our website during the first week of June 2026, assuming everything continues to go smoothly.

No, internal 5.25 drives aren't powered through USB at all.
That cable is only meant for slimline USB drives.

Hello everyone,

We have now received the 2nd prototype looms, which are 200cm long and use a heavier gauge wire, and we are pleased to report that all testing has gone very well.

We tested 12 x BD100 UHD discs using both the Hitachi BP55 cross-flashed to BP60NB10 1-00MK and the Hitachi BU40N on firmware 1-03MK, installed in the Vantec NST-510S3-BK enclosure, together with the new Asmcom USB Stable Power Looms and external power supplies.

All discs were read successfully with no read errors whatsoever.

Testing was carried out using both a Mac Mini M4 Pro and a Dell Precision M7740.

We are also pleased to confirm that our supplier has now advised us that mass production will begin shortly, and we expect to receive photographs of the final production looms and labels very soon.

In addition, the supplier has confirmed that the new USB Type-C versions with full USB 3.0 connectors have now been completed and are also being prepared for shipment and final approval testing.

We are very pleased with the performance and stability of both drives, along with the new looms and power supply configuration.

I'm new here but I would like to know as well. Ready to dive into this when the site is up and running.

I've been using MakeMKV for quite some time now to backup my BDs and also bought a license several years ago, but now I want to upgrade my >10 years old 5.25" double layer drive to a UHD drive, so I have some questions just to be safe:

Asmcom ships to Germany, right?
If I buy a 5.25" UHD drive at Asmcom, I can use it with my current external IcyBox 5.25" case (with its own power supply), correct?
The drives available at Asmcom are tested to work with MakeMKV to bypass the annoying copy protection stuff, right?

Right now I will check this board and the Asmcom website to see if there are any updates on the shop re-opening.

Read the first post carefully. Asmcom will only be selling slimline LG drives, not 5.25" units. Asmcom is based in the UK, so shipping to Germany will involve additional import fees (the UK is no longer in the EU, unfortunately).

According to search.php?author_id=26102&sr=posts he ships from Nothern Ireland, so there's no problem with Customs to EU countries.

@asmcom can you please confirm this?
