Hi There,

I am new to this technology but stumbled across Makemkv and am trying to make it work for me.

I have extracted an NEC HD DVD drive from my original Toshiba HD DVD player and inserted it into my Windows PC in the hope of being able to scan my 100 HD DVD discs and store them on my NAS drive for playback.

The Drive works fine with DVD's in it, but every time I try a HD DVD, no luck...

I understand that Makemkv can read HD DVD discs but I keep getting an error , every time I try.. ( see Below )

can anyone advise how to resolve please... many thanks David

If it happens with all discs i think you have a problem with the drive as MakeMKV definintely works with more discs than it has issues with for HD-DVD. I still have some discs with issues and i will update my previous reports in the coming week or so as some of those discs are fine now.

@davidimas

Hi!

Depending on your PC's O/S, you may have to install a UDF 2.50 driver...

Hi ,

I have two computers , one vista and one win 7. I have tried installing the HD DVD drive in both machines without success... I have read on the internet that removing the NEC drive from my old Toshiba HD DVD player and installing in a windows computer should work, unfortunaely not for me . ( as yet ) can you please explain what the driver you mentioned is and where I could find one ... many thx David

Only systems with XP or older operating systems require the installation f a UDF 2.50 driver in order to process HD-DVDs and Blu-ray discs - therefore, you don't have to install it on either of your machines, as its already installed...

MakeMKV has a built-in UDF parser and works without UDF driver.

Mike, are the issues reported in this thread for some discs fixable or is it a major rework to sort it out? If fixable, do you have an ETA on when a newer version would be released that addresses the issues?

Cheers.

EDIT: I have updated a few of the discs that are now working in my original posts (edits in RED), and the ones i have not added an update i will try to do so tonight. Cheers!

Hi!

Try using your original, commercial HD-DVD as the source you load into MakeMKV...

I also have problems, but different trying to open the Phantom of the Opera Disc. Might be that my original disc is bad though as i don't even get to open it and select the title feature.

Did you have either AnyDVDHD or DVDFab Passkey while ripping with MakeMKV?
