Help with Flashing Drive

Post by drxenos »

Can someone please help me? I've read through all the posts on flashing at least a dozen times, and I'm still confused on a couple of things.

Just bought a new WH16NS40 to replace my old "friendly" one that crapped out, but it has the new, unfriendly firmware.
See the enclosed makemkv info.

The SVC code is "NS50", so is my drive a WH16NS40 or a WH16NS40-NS50? That is, which file do I flash (from mk-firmware-pack-20200720.zip):
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440.bin
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.bin

Second question:
After I flash the about, is that it or do I need to flash something else (All I care about is being able to use MakeMKV and AnyDVD with UHDs).

Thank you.

That doesn't answer my questions, but thanks anyway. I've read the guide like a dozen times.

Basically you can also follow my guide for AnyDVD. A little bit more precautious but with all the steps you need and why:

Thank you for the offers of help. I appreciate it.

I can flash the drive. That's trivial. I just had a couple of questions. That's all.

Yes, use the SDFtool Flasher (with "enc" checked) to flash the first firmware. Once the first flash has completed you can then flash whatever firmware you want to use (with "enc" unchecked).

That's it! DONE!!

Now, if you wish to use this drive with AnyDVD, I recommend you DO NOT use WH16NS60 firmware (as in your second firmware listed). NS60 firmware is not compatible with AnyDVD. The majority of folk that use AnyDVD flash their drives with ASUS BW-16D1HT_3.10 from the MK firmware pack.

Hope this answers your questions.
Cheers :D

THANK YOU. That's exactly the info I was looking for!
