Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Hi, just a quick Q, if I have a profile 7 mkv made with 1.53, can it then be coverted to 8.1 or do need to re-rip the disk, running out of space with all these ripped files on my laptop. Thank you.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Nice work as always on the comparisons! But just curious on why profile 8 videos were used? especially ones with an EL that it's not supposed to haveRESET_9999 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 2:57 amHere are 5 more comparisons between the Shield and the Sony x700. The file tested is a profile 8 single track BL+EL+RPU.
But this time, instead of using my camera, a friend of mine(thank's manix) provided me two samples tone mapped to SDR from Dolby Vision made using a capture card (pro-res HQ) and the vertex 2 which allow the DV tone mapping.
This method shows the difference more accurately than camera pictures because exactly the same tone mapping is applied to both players and no clipping nor off looking colors usually introduced by the camera. it allows me to compare a lot more frames quickly too.
here are the 5 comparisons...

I also asked him for the same comparison but with a FEL movie and also a sample from the firestick TV
Code: Select all
Video ID : 2 Format : ProRes Codec ID : V_PRORES Duration : 3 min 0 s Bit rate : 645 Mb/s Width : 3 840 pixels Height : 2 160 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 3.243 Stream size : 13.5 GiB (99%) Default : Yes Forced : No
No other tool currently exists other than makemkv that will create DV mkvs. Mkvtoolsnix will preserve the DV metadata, but cannot create or do any conversions, so I don't think you'll be able to do any profile/video conversions after the fact if makemkv is unable to do so in the first place.DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 6:46 amHi, just a quick Q, if I have a profile 7 mkv made with 1.53, can it then be coverted to 8.1 or do need to re-rip the disk, running out of space with all these ripped files on my laptop. Please and you drove some DV mkv transferred to FID with FEL to MEL. I have Zidoo and I'm not doing well yet. Everything is fine on the shield.DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 6:40 amI wouldn’t jump too quickly, I have Zidoo Z9X as well as Shield and in my limited testing on the Zidoo the colours look more over saturated than on my Oppo Clone - which is amazingly natural.SamuriHL wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 1:09 amExactly!RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 11:32 pm
I think all the files produced by @yusesope tool are correct. the problem is the Shield.
I haven’t tried any 8.1 files yet though.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
sorry for the late response, this TS file is an original untouched demo. Remuxing that file with any version of tsmuxer will probably make it unsupported by your device.Koceens wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 12:22 pmHello,
Can you please share steps you made to create this file? And what software versions you used (TS muxer)?
I have tried many times to create a working .ts file from my UHD Bluray, but it does not play on my Hisense U8QF via USB. Says file is not supported.
Your file works and triggers DV.
From all the methods described in this long conversation only yusesope's method is working for me and then muxing it with mp4muxer. Plays on my TV with all DV profiles. The problem is that with this method I don't know how to encode subtitles from .srt file. My TV doesn't read external subtitles from a separate file in mp4 container for some reason. I would really appreciate if someone could help with suggestion on this matter.
Thank you in advance!

he's getting a black screen on the Firestick TV, sorry because it has probably been answered a million times but can someone tell me what file does work on the firestick?

FEL files don't work (black screen), though I've had it work once after profile 7 to 8.1 conversion.RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 2:19 pmhe's getting a black screen on the Firestick TV, sorry because it has probably been answered a million times but can someone tell me what file does work on the firestick?
All other samples (other than profile 4) have worked for me.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
The FireStick should read my FELs -> MELs (and of course the original MELs)
@PapitaHD posted a lot of samples. The FireStick should play the "MEL STDL mkv" sample (+ my ExoP and maybe the new Plex...IDK) without any problems.
I hope @PapitaHD will re-upload all these samples to another cloud (pCloud, Mega, etc) as wetransfer only keeps the files for a week!PapitaHD wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 7:04 pmI've created a lot of samples of the so-called bathroom fight scene from MI Fallout (which is considered to be one of the best scenes for DV testing), in basically all formats for testing purposes:

MEL DTDL ISO: https://we.tl/t-QCnGWO6BLg
FEL STDL TS: https://we.tl/t-ZjRQW5MvXp

FEL STDL mkv: https://we.tl/t-m37JLz8GtM
MEL STDL mkv: https://we.tl/t-T9birvQfHC
Profile 8.1 STSL TS: https://we.tl/t-YjwVzKmar3
FEL x265 DTDL ISO: https://we.tl/t-GRs0U07umW
FEL x265 STDL mkv: https://we.tl/t-bfUqVCblJ8
FEL x265 STDL TS: https://we.tl/t-bE54zCPw2G
Would be great if others could test and compare them. I know re-encoded BL is not supposed to work, but it seems fine to me, maybe someone can point out what's wrong with it.
Thanks for your work @PapitaHD (when I have time I will try to explain to you why the encoded files are not good) and thanks also to @RESET_9999 (and his friend)!
I apologize to those who have asked me questions but these days I have very little time. Sorry!
When the "Plex fever" is gone, we'll start testing again .
I have some pretty good ideas that I hope to be able to put into practice

It's clearly seen red's distrubution across frame is wrong - less overall but boosted in some areas
I could make a guess - some function applied during DV color transformation return wrong result.
It could be an error during data interpretation by ShieldTV DV decoder or unability to correctly use such data.
Meta for UHD disk and online streaming platforms could be different because it should contain data how to apply EL.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
3 films: The Shining, Doctor sleep and Jaws.
They are DV Mel and also HDR10+ compatible.
None of them plays in Firestick 4k.
Audio only with black screen.
Anyone can explain why?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
So i converted a Fel movie to Mel using yusesope's tool and instruction but when i try to use that file in MakeMkv, the progress gets stuck halfway through. I have tried few different FEL titles with exactly the same result. I am using latest nightly tsmuxer, along with latest Fel to Mel tool by youscope.
The interesting thing is that i didnt encounter the same problem when feeding a DV ISO to MakeMkv so there must be something happening between tsmuxwer and yusesope tool which i cannot root out.
Is anyone having similar issue lately or maybe it is a bug?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
My android TV has the exact same DV implementation as Firestick 4k. I've tested The Shining which I ripped using 1.15.2 and it works flawlessly. Haven't tested the other 2 titles.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Please owner Zidoo z9x. How satisfied are you? I find out that perhaps no DV can be played there . It either cuts or stops completely. I think maybe I'll go back to Shield. What do you think is better Shield or Zdioo z9x?
