Hi Everyone,

I'm new here. I haven't used a dvd writer or any drive for over 10 years but I did have experience before with flashing pioneer drives.

I recently purchased the WH16NS40 and it came with 1.04. I'm trying to downgrade it to 1.02 with the flasher, but of course I need to do to sideload the other appropriate firmware first.

I was looking through the firmware pack looking for the firmware that I have to sideload to first and am a little confused. I'm supposed to flash this drive with the LG WH16NS60 1.02MK right? Does it matter that I have the ns40 and not the ns60? I don't think this firmware is included in the zip. Do I have to find it somewhere online first? So the steps would be flash the drive to LG WH16NS60 1.02MK and then back to the WH16NS40 1.02 firmware, then I should be good to go?

Thanks

Hi Billy :)

I was playing around with the mk firmware and I accidently flashed the wh14sn40 1.04 firmware to my wh16ns40 1.04 drive. It flashed 98% then gave an emergency mode error and restarted my pc (seems to work fine though). The drive now reports as wh14ns40 and does work as makemkv shows it's patched for libre. Do I now update to the correct wh16ns40 firmware or am I stuck at this point?

Thanks for all your work on the flashing etc, much appreciated.

Does this allow you to play 4K on the fly? Or just rip? Is there a way to play 4K on the fly?

So I've followed the guide. I run BH14NS40_N1.00-A4_patched.exe, and select HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.bin. When I click Go, I get an error that says "Checksum Mismatched. Drive will go into Boot Mode." Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Stock WH16NS60 1.03 is an encrypted firmware, so you need to use MakeMKV's sdftool flashing feature. If you prefer a GUI, you can use "SDFtool Flasher". Use the search function and you will find it.

To use:
1. Select your drive from dropdown box.
2. Make sure "WRITE firmware" is selected.
3. Select the same HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.bin firmware file you were trying to flash before.
4. Check the "enc" checkbox.
5. Click START to perform flash.
Cheers :D

I have firmware version 1.03 of this drive. I am able to find the necessary files and follow the directions precisely. I can select and open the file in the flashing utility but when I click the go button I receive a pop up message of "Checksum is mismatched. Drive will go into BOOT mode. Please retry again" I have restarted and retired multiple times with the same result. Any ideas of what could be wrong?
