Well, looks like drives with the new encrypted firmware are starting to show up fairly frequently!

This might be a dumb question, but since it says ROM 1.03 on it (I assume manufactured with that) and has arrived to him with 1.04, does this mean they're upgrading the firmware at suppliers?

I don't see any other explanation...

Put "enc" option (without quotes) after rawflash because if your unit comes with 1.04 it will accept only fw in encrypted format.

Unrelated question:
Why are the serial numbers from MakeMKV and from the sticker different?

it also makes me wonder. The drive comes from a legal distribution ... I think the distributor or supplier has changed the firmware (forcibly?). This is really strange.

I'd guess the number MakeMKV is displaying is actually the serial number of the drive controller / internal device, rather than the serial of the entire unit as a whole (whats on the label).

I think they are running some sort of upgrade process (could be recall / refurbish) where the drive gets a new firmware with encryption, and changes its serial number in a process.

Any benefit to downgrading the firmware from 1.04?

1.02 is here: https://www.lg.com/us/support/software- ... CT30011742

Is 1.03 the patched version that MakeMKV references in the LibreDrive section?

This what I have:

OS device name: D:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
