With the Archgon MD-8107S-U3-UHD, would I be able to flash it with software and the USB connected to my computer or would I not have to?
It is possible to flash that drive yes. I don't know your skill set well enough to comment on your ability to flash it yourself but I'm thinking you have what it takes! Just remember if you're in doubt to ask!

Yes, once flashed with MK firmware.
Cheers :D

I hope this is the right place.

I'm trying to enable Libre Drive, and from what I understand from "What is LibreDrive" thread, it should enable itself automatically, but I have this drive info when I open MakeMKV:
Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS40
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 13:48
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 21

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
What does "Possible, not yet enabled" mean? Do I have to flash the firmware anyway?

I'm on Linux Mint, if that matters.

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

updated guide with new instructions for WH16NS60 1.03 encrypted firmware
Thanks to mike for figuring it all out: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22499

New Encrypted firmware
WH16NS60 1.03 and probably others soon,
for these firmwares you must flash an encrypted firmware image with ONLY the makemkv flasher in FULL mode.

Just wait a few days for 1.05 MK to be released. . If you really can't wait, you can cross-flash to NS60 1.02 using encrypted MK fw and then then cross-flash back to 1.04 . The details and encrypted 1.02MK are in a sibling topic.

Sweet, thanks! I'm in no hurry and don't mind waiting a few days.

I thought that warning goes without saying.

One quick glance on this forum shows that no, it does NOT go without saying. At all. People have this "newer is better" mentality.

I thought it was the "everything is, or should be, free" mentality that's what I run into a lot

And that same quick glance will show that no matter how many times it is written, some will just take a pass on reading it.

I'm aware but if you don't put up the no trespassing signs, people use it as an excuse to f*** up their s***. :D
