WH16NS60 on clearance at frys.com for $84.
https://www.frys.com/search?search_type ... Name=false

YMMV since Fry's is a string away from bankruptcy.
So whether you can get this delivered or not, IDK.

Amazon has the WH16NS60 for either $67 bare, or $172 bundled with software to play UHDs.

That's most likely a mistake in their system. I order them anytime they show stock anywhere and end up receiving a phone call or email shortly after (sadness)

**update** just got the call, lol

Ah, yes, so it is the NS40, which came up as "Amazon's Choice" for people looking for the NS60...

thanks for the guide. also kinda awesome that the cheapest desktop drive I could get was a BH16NS55 which I could flash pretty straight, now I just need some UHDBDs to actually go ham.

although another drive I have an SN-506BB is listed as being compatible with triple and quad layer around the internet, probably no patches possible tho, right?

ASUS BW-12B1ST - can it be flashed?

I have had this drive for several years, but some time ago it just refused to read Blueray discs.
From what I can read on the many sites I have been through, it is likely something mechanical.

I do have this strange thing, where windows 10 does not see the drive as a Blueray drive:
Device SCSI\CdRom&Ven_ASUS&Prod_BW-12B1ST\4&15828421&2&020000 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.

But do not think that is the reason, because I installed a new Windows 10 on the same copmputer, where this is not showing.
Makemkv does not see the Blueray disc in either.
CD's and DVD's work.

Then I stumbled over this forum, and got the firmware flash package, but it seems like nothing happens - I have had the flasher running for long periods without any result.
This should not be due to anything mechanical, so is it the old model, that cannot be flashed?

In ASOS ODD FW Changer (Modified):
FW selected: ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-MK
0 : ASUS BW-12B1ST 1.03

Can someone guide me?
Even with what drive to buy next?

With the Archgon MD-8107S-U3-UHD, would I be able to flash it with software and the USB connected to my computer or would I not have to?
