Cross flash UH12NS40 to WH14NS40?

Post by mallums »

I have both of the above. Looking at the MakeMKV drive info, it appears that they are both "platform MT1959" drives. Does this mean that they both have the same capabilities? In particular, can I flash the UH12NS40 with WH14NS40 firmware? What would happen if I did, and tried to write a BD-R with the UH12NS40 drive, which doesn't normally do that. Would it work? Would it fail? Would it burn something up? Is the hardware really the same, or are there model differences?

Well according to LG both the UH12NS40 and WH14NS40 are burners as well as readers so it doesn't seem like it would be a problem.
I have never tried this, I don't really burn anything but would like to try to. What software packager do you use for burning discs and more importantly what kind of disc are you hoping to end up with (data disc, video disc, etc.)?

Well, according to advertising, the old UH12NS40 was just a BD reader, if I understand correctly. It burns DVDs and CDs, but not BDs. but it is the same drive platform as the WH14NS40 so ???????

My mistake I read the spec wrong, I guess it's not a Blu Ray burner thanks for setting me straight.
