When you mention LG WH14NS40 (flashed to NS60 1.00 DE). Would DE_LG WH16NS60_1.00.bin be the same file for downgrading? Because I have the LG WH14NS40 and not the LG WH16NS60.

Thanks. Oddly. I first flashed 1.03 and was stuck at 100% and thought it didn’t work. Loaded up MAkeMKV and firmware confirms 1.03. Then did the downgrade to NS60 1.00 DE. I wonder if I could have just cross flashed from the original drives FW 1.04 to NS60 1.00 DE.

I want to backup my UHD blu rays and play it on my UHD TV.
So i think an UHD friendly drive is the way to go.

I have read the articles and now want to get an "Asus BW-16D1HT" (90DD0200-B28000) from amazon.de and flash it with 3.10MK "ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin".

So here are my "noob" questions (please dont blame me because i am new to this UHD friendly thing just rocking my 10 year old BD-RE GGW-H20L here):

Is it as simple as that?
Are there any drives of the "Asus BW-16D1HT" out there which can't run or be flashed to the 3.10 MK firmware?
Are the backed up UHD discs also decrypted by MakeMKV so i can store it on my NAS and play it on my UHD TV?

1. Yes, that simple.

2. As long as the ASUS BW-16D1HT drive you get is newer than Late 2015 and comes with firmware 3.xx you should be good to go!

3. I assume you are talking MKV file and not folder back-up. If so, the backup will be decrypted in MakeMKV so long as the VUK is available. For folder back-up, it will be decrypted as long as the "decrypt" checkbox is checked and the VUK is available.

1. Yes, that simple.

2. As long as the ASUS BW-16D1HT drive you get is newer than Late 2015 and comes with firmware 3.xx you should be good to go!

Bought a HL-Data Storage BH50N with 1.01 with marking KCC-REM-LG-DBMH16NS40, manufactured May 2018 from eBay for $50.00+free shipping.
It wouldn't read a UHD disc at this point. Compared the internals with my LG WH16NS40 1.01 and both have the Mediatek MT1959HWDN chip.

Successfully flashed it to a BH16NS40 1.02 using the BH14NS40_N1.00-A4-patched.exe, and the DE_flash_HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BH16NS40_1.02_NS50.bin firmware.
It now reads a UHD disc

I wasn't able to get/download the BH50N 1.01 firmware from the optical drive itself.

Not all drives can rip UHD BDs. That is the whole point of this very thread/post. To provide information on which drives are compatible and/or what you need to do with those drives (e.g. flash firmware) to make them compatible for UHD ripping.

You need to do your part and read the first post. We can't do this part for you. Instead of just jumping to the last page to post. The first post literally provides the information you need alongside step-by-step guides on what to do.

If you believe that this is all far beyond your tech understanding, the first post also provides links to members who offer services that will do all this for you and provide ready to go drives.

I do apologise. The reason why I didn't read much of the first post is because I intended to purchase an actual UHD drive, not a friendly version. I just assumed if it was possible to play and rip out of box without having to do any of that flashing malarkey. I wished to clarify by posting in this thread.

I think it's a good idea if I purchase one from one of the guys. I've e-mailed Alex.

Hi guys!
I'm using the Asus BW-161HT on my iMac, and was on fw 3.10. I have problems ripping many of my UHDs, maybe successful only in around 50% of cases. For example, none of the Marvel Avengers/captain America discs could be ripped, the error is usually the IPC error.
So I tried to change fw to 3.01, still no luck. Then I tried 3.02. This time I think my drive got bricked. Cant read anything including regular blurays.

Any way to salvage the drive?

You can only flash the drive if it is newer than late 2015 and has the NS50 service code on the drive label. If neither of these are true, then do not flash it.

Hi, need a little help. I got way ahead of myself and flashed my WH14NS40 - NS40 1.0 Circa 2013 to a WH14NS40/NS50 MK firmware. I have read the posts that it is not garbage, but in this post there is a mention of "NS40 Recovery Image" is that for the NS40 that really is a NS40 that was flashed to a NS50, and no calibration was saved? (my case)

I booted the image, but there does not seem to be a NS40 1.0 firmware, they all are NS50. I have the clean firmware from LG, for the old drive, but no calibration data. Is there any chance of a rescue?
