LG BP5050NB40 support

Post by ionblue » Mon May 06, 2019 12:43 pm

I just purchased a second external drive so I can rip multiple BR's on my Mac. I had no idea that there was a possibility with this drive to be able to rip UHD material though. I saw the error about the LibreDrive firmware on my first rip and was like, what the heck is that all about?!

Anyway, I don't need to rip UHD just yet, but knowing it might be possible with what I have already is kind of cool. Anybody have any idea for this drive: LG BP5050NB40.

This drive and it's UHD Official cousin the BP60NB10 will continue to go unsupported by makemkv until a flasher that works over USB is released.

It's already available

Use USB Emulator & Linux Devil Claw Firmware Extractor modify and reflash

https://github.com/devilsclaw/flasher/r ... nt_Release

Also some hardware versions available but very very expensive mostly used for forensic Superspeed USB3 Host emulator Connectivity work.

Hope I have pointed you to solution, as works for me. Mike also as solution for this. But is very tricky I would say is the word.

Regards
It's the start of a solution yes. Which USB Emulator do you use? Thank you.

Necro bumping but Im unsure if I should create a new thread
I have this drive and the information is quite sketchy for which firmware is supposidly supported.
In makemkv I see this

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: Censored
Firmware date: 2114-12-16 10:16
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.00
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Possible, not yet enabled
Which would seem to imply that I should be able to view UHD disks I think, but when ever I insert a UHD disk, it try's to load it then fails and says no disk loaded...
I have had this drive for quite awhile and have changed the outer shell to a usb 3.0 shell if that could cause a problem.
I know that this drive is not recommended but I figured I'd atleast try to get a little more information if possible.
One last thing, the drive is a SVC NB40 if that makes any difference.

Enjoy it for ripping blu rays. I will happily sell you a drive for 4K UHD ripping. If your service code was a 50 I believe you'd be in business. Yet no one has actually proven that yet. And no flasher exists for this drive no matter what the service code is, nor it's UHD official cousin the BP60NB10.

Good idea changing to a USB 3 enclosure. Out of curiosity which one are you using?

Sigh, I figured as much, atm I don't have a 4k ready machine but was hoping that the drive would work atleast, oh well.
This is the enclosure that I use btw.
