ASUS ASUS BW-16D1HT

Post by bodieiv »

I know you can put an internal optical drive in enclosure to make it external but my question is can this drive work on a Mac. The spec's only shows Windows.

Do you know of a good external UHD Friendly Drive for the Mac. ASUS MW-16D1X-U Does not read the UHD disc but was a listed drive for external for MAC.

Thanks

John

As well as the WH14NS40, the standard LG WH16NS40, BH16NS40 and ASUS BW-16D1HT can all be used with makemkv and macOS with the addition of a sata>usb enclosure such as the OWC Mercury Pro or the Vantec NexStar DX.

Has anyone experience of (WIn10 internal) 3D mkv compatible players that will play UHD 3D and convert 2D to 3D eg ASUS BW-16D1HT Pro. 90DD0200-D20010
Cannot find any independent reviews
I note one of the LG players advertises it can also do this
Any suggestions (don’t need to rip UHD-3D) but the “convert” might be nice if it works as I have this facility on my TV, but do want to rip UHD

1. There is currently NO such thing as “UHD 3D“ BDs. Meaning, there are currently no 4k discs that use the 3D technology on TVs/players. 3D BDs are currently only available in 1080p.

However there are UHD TVs and players that do support play back of UHD BDs as well as 3D BDs. But these two formats are completely independent of each other.

2. Last I checked no current TV or player will convert 2D UHD BD playback to 3D anything. Even when downscaled to 1080p. The format and current tech disallow this as it’s currently not in any part of the 4k specifications.

I bought the LG BH16NS40 but will not read UHD Ghostbusters II or Close Encounters of the third Kind

I have put in external drive enclosure and it just pops the disc out

I have not installed any software from the drive and I am running Mac

System says Firmware Revision 1.03

Not sure what to do

It does read Blu Rays
